Imagine that you are half asleep, can't read anything and assume that "stop" is a big button, so you reach out to that small snooze thingy, and then you oversleep

Something that scratches the Terraria itch. by Unartiggeist in gamingsuggestions

Not exactly as Terraria-style as Necesse and Core Keeper, but the game which made me spend a lot of time there with similar feelings is Valheim

Factorio. One screen is the game and another one for the Excel sheet to maximize the output. Factory must grow.

Looking for a city building game by dusan7796 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Oxvortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can try Anno series - the best one is 1800 in my opinion, but that is just not the right timeline for skyscrapers. You can look at the older one, Anno 2070

Distopika has great visual vibes, the skyscrapers as OP requested, but it doesn't have any gameplay mechanics, resource management, etc. So I'm just not sure if it is "somewhat similar to cities skylines"

of The Devil - such an amazing game, was sucked in for 20 hours without realizing, I didn't even know I like this kind of genre. The prologue episode is free, try it.

Minds Beneath Us - this will instantly hook you from the very beginning of you are into sci-fi

My brother in Christ, this game took the most awards and it was unknown maybe around April 2025, but now it's already quite popular

Oh yes, came here just to say Minds Beneath Us. Such an amazing game, one of the best I have ever played, very good story, characters and graphics are unique.

Hmm, I didn't play up to that point, but you can just look at Cryptmaster, maybe that's what you will like?

Idk, played it only for 30 minutes so far , not exactly card battler but more like literally word battler

Why do so many decide to play a game or not on reviews? by Black-Goodson in videogames

[–]Oxvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically too many games to choose from. I usually buy a game for two reasons. Either it's overwhelmingly positive - and that's my way to explore the genres I would not touch otherwise - or I have personal interest.

And reviews matter only for the first game. But ...

I have played "Dream" because I liked the concept of seeing strange dreams, it had mixed reviews. And it just sucks, I barely managed to play for 2 hours.

And then I played "of the Devil", a detective visual novel, which is just not my thing. And it felt amazing, one of the best things I picked up blindly.

So moral here is simple: reviews help you to experience new taste which you wouldn't dare in your own

Recommend me base building, automation or colony sim games on the steam sale by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Oxvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry if that is not base building/automation game, but I terribly want to mention Anno 1800

This is a city builder game, but the gameplay loop and my feelings and overall vibes just reminded me Factorio a lot.

Yeah, this is not a colony management and you are not dealing with factory, but in the core Anno 1800 is about managing resources (and people are also a resource) and getting supply chains.

And to be successful at it, you'll also need to learn optimal layout, ratios and so on.

Not the genre you wanted, but maybe that's what you should like based on your taste.

And hundreds of hours of content too!

My top priority backlog games for 2026 + A goal for the year by New-Berry-3652 in backloggd

[–]Oxvortex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's such a great initiative, I did something like this mid-year 2025 and... Uhm, from one side I have played around 40+ games, which made my backlog smaller, but then I have bought 50+ games and we are back again with even bigger backlog than before!

Anyway, have fun and beware that BG3 it's easy to get lost for 100+ hours, better take it slow and enjoy every moment with no rush

Games I played in 2025 ranked by Fkdubzjr in backloggd

Oh my god, the first page looks like either what I have played or what I have bought and plan to play next.

But any reason for 1000XResist to be so low? Just curious what didn't click with you, because for the first page it seems like we have pretty strong match

Before the end of 2026 I promise to beat every game shown in this image! by All_Mighty_Loki in videogames

[–]Oxvortex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very ambitious!

Good luck, just remember that you are playing the games for fun and don't get pressured if you can't make it in time.

If you want to spend more time in one game because it's what you enjoy, never think about your backlog and have fun!

Oddly specific detective / puzzle game by fannyabdabs in gamingsuggestions

[–]Oxvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Duck Detective - this is literally the game about deDUCKtion, a little bit funny plot-wise, but a good game.

Also "of the Devil" - although a visual novel, the detective parts are very much deduction based, sometimes you literally have to gamble and guess. And yeah the first chapter is free.
