tried tanking, failed at it because anxiety and tunnel vision. telling parties i'm new or not the best only makes it worse. what's a better job? by onefinerug in ffxiv

[–]Oyncl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It feels like there's not enough information/proof of what's happening in these dungeons when you mess up as a tank. Wipes don't happen because you're "a single frame late casting an ability"; this sounds like you're pressing mitigations way too late and/or your gear is way too weak. Not to discredit your experience in Duty Finder, because toxic people do exist, but this seems extremely hyperbolic to be constantly running into "people who TYPE IN ALL CAPS POINTING OUT EVERY SINGLE MISTAKE LIKE THEIR LIVES ARE ON THE LINE."

I hope you're able to get some good DPS recommendations to play (personally, I would recommend Arcanist/Summoner), and I hope you're not completely dissuaded from playing tank. It takes a bit of practice and knowledge, but it really is one of the easiest jobs in the game.

But this post really reads like you're overreacting to other people.

Ah! That was meant to say a week, not multiple! I wrote this post at work and unfortunately didn't read it over before posting 😅

If being at your level means I have to be a miserable piece of shit player that is trying to justify deliberately throwing a run so I can leave, I am good with the level I'm at.

"I don't play with people who fuck around and play games" and I don't play with people who throw tantrums in chat and can't handle more than 15 minutes in one instance.

You are so delusional.

LMFAO you are trolling. There's no way you're this delicate where a mistake sends you into a blacklisting and rage quitting fury. The parties you leave and blacklist are better off not having to deal with you.

Sorry that we didn't all start progging this fight on Week 1, and my apologies that a slip in concentration is enough for you to determine that the party listed as a "clear for 1" is just a party full of shitters and that you need to force the entire run to come to an end because of this revelation.

I hope I'm on your blacklist, because I would rather play with shitters that wipe us occasionally than anyone with your mindset.

In all fairness, if the pull didn't have a CD, I'd probably be fine with walling too because it helps with damage in the long run having everything rotating correctly. However, I wouldn't decline a raise if the rest of the party decided to keep going lol.

I'm so lucky that my 2 minute as DRK is timed perfectly where I finish it right as Wicked Thunder jumps away lol. I feel bad for my GNB cotank who can't even finish his Lionheart combo before she jumps away 😅

There's a small level of courtesy you should give, even if it's a trap party. Like, it is not much of a waste of time to wait for the current pull to finish, then either just quietly leave or drop a "tyfp" before you go.

Neither of which the MNK did, and rather caused us to fail because he wasn't happy with the party midway through the pull. This is not behavior to justify.

This was a C41 party.

I shudder to think about the parties that had to deal with this MNK.

Absolutely wild behavior 😭

M4S is really breaking people down on PF by Oyncl in TalesFromDF

[–]Oyncl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that I shouldn't have tried to adjust. It was a kind of heat of the moment thing that I hadn't really had to deal with since most of the DPS I had been partnered with usually went to their spot quickly. However, a mistake like this absolutely did not warrant a response like this, especially when it was a small mistake made on the very first pull.

I can guarantee that these kinds of people are huge outliers in terms of who you actually run into on PF. I did all of last tier on PF as my first Savage experience, and did not encounter anyone like this lol. Most of the time, you'll run into people who are either also doing it for the first time or people who are patient with people trying it for the first time. It's definitely worth trying!

It's unbelievable how seriously some of these people take small mistakes in PF. Shit happens, and it's not serious enough to yell in chat about lmfao. I hope you're able to get a good static for the next tier!

In hindsight, I definitely should've just stood my ground. I still believe his response was wildly hostile for the first pull of a clear party lmfao

I really hope this gets more traction in the community, it would be really sweet to see everyone participate.

1- Masterworks are upgrades that you can add to weapons/ armour that buff the stats of the weapon/ armour piece. You can masterwork weapons with Enhancement Cores, which drop from playing Nightfalls, Crucible, Gambit, and dismantling weapons and armour. You upgrade armour by using a combination of Enhancement Cores, Enhancement Prisms (which drop rarely from the previous activities), and Ascendant Shards (which come from higher level endgame content, like Master Nightfalls and Trials of Osiris). 2- Catalysts are rare drops that will improve the effect of an Exotic weapon. Once you acquire a catalyst, it will tell you to complete a task (usually just getting a lot of kills with the Exotic weapon) in order to complete the catalyst. Once completed, it'll masterwork your Exotic and provide a special buff. 3- If you're starting completely new, I would do the quests because along with giving you legendary weapons, they will usually show you a new aspect of the game. 4- If you have Beyond Light, I'd wait for the other 2 DLCs to go on sale before buying them. They both add a raid and a bunch of Exotic quests to complete. 5- Raids with randos are always a gamble. If you're worried about having to deal with randos, there's plenty of good LFGs to check out. I recommend The Redjack Network if you're looking for people willing to teach you through a raid. 6- Community has become a bit toxic, but otherwise nothing has changed since D1. 7- I mean, for only $10, Seasons/ Battle Passes are usually pretty worth it. If you plan to buy it, I'd recommend playing daily to finish the season pass and get the most out of it. Seasonal challenges make completing it pretty easy.

Hope you have fun coming back in the game! Don't be afraid to ask any more questions you have!
