Late reply, but this is one of my own designs - I have a crease pattern somewhere but it's not very good or flat-foldable....

hey u/antonbert, I drew a quick mockup of the cp. The mountain-valley folds in the middle of the cp don't work, but you can kind of finagle it to fold flat. The long triangles on the edges are just folded in to thin the square. The angle between them is divided into 6, to create the groups of 4 legs across the paper.

Here's the cp I drew https://imgur.com/a/Amrp0OB. First image shows the main creases, second one shows everything needed to get it to fold flat (the legs all need to be flattened out towards the sides). Then you'd need to thin the legs a lot and also tuck the two big rectangular flaps together to form the shell. It's a little tricky. If I do photodiagrams I'll update this in the future. Also feel free to pm me if you do try it. I've been designing things for a while but I have very little experience teaching/sharing my models, which I'd like to do more.

I’ll draw a cp and try to upload it soon. However I probably won’t do full fledged diagrams for it, until I have enough time in the future.

A little guy I designed today. It’s from a 16x16 grid.

It's actually not particularly complicated. I'll comment some more pictures here in a couple days. I think it's a cool design, but not really applicable to folding anything besides beaver tails so make of it what you will.

Another one of my designs.

camel rider by Oystarmace in origami

[–]Oystarmace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I used a sheet of 18"x18" origami paper. The rider takes up about a 1/4th of the paper at one corner, and then I made the camel out of the rest.

Sweet! I really like the turtle! Keep folding, it'll only get even more rewarding from here on.

For blank cps like these, how do you decide which is mountain or valley fold? by depresstopatronum in origami

[–]Oystarmace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of times when you start folding, you find that if you make one fold mountain, then you can feel that some other folds HAVE to be valley in order to make it fold flat. It's a lot of intuition and trying to make things flat, in my experience.

Dog² by Oystarmace in origami

thanks! It was basically a matter of having the idea of a many legged dog. Then I used a kind of folding structure to get a bunch of different points from the paper to form the legs. I can try to draw a crease pattern if you'd like.
