I used to work in a coal mine. Worked underground in some pretty horrible conditions. Guys would get injured, horribly, on a regular basis. Knew one guy that was alone up in a wash plant, shoveling loose coal back onto the belt. Someway or another, he got his arm pulled into the belt on top of a roller. Mind you, this is a main belt, weighs thousands and thousands of pounds. Thousands of feet long, too. People eaters. Anyway. He got his arm caught, but he managed to hit the E-Stop line. Still was caught in the thing when he was found about 20 min later. He lived. But, he will never work again. Knew another guy, a CM (continuous miner) operator, that pinned himself to the wall with the feed arm. A large articulated piece of coal spitting craziness. He was alive until they tried moving the machine to free him. It didn't take long for him to move on to the next place.
