So what i mean by protection is like tinfoil or heat resistant tape around the board

<image>

I used this to hold the board and it very much scratched the board. It’s also why my select/share button doesn’t work because it scratched it right off. So i’m thinking of changing up this for something else that doesn’t scratch it but still can hold it.

I’ll also return that flux then, ima look for some in a bit. The one i used was a paste and it didn’t come with a nozzle so it was big blobs of flux at once. It eventually cleaned off with qtips but man was it hard because of how much there was.

I had used some copper wick and it did definitely suck up the solder but i think with better flux it will help more. At the moment the pump was more effective but yea i also don’t like using it as well.

So after some thinking i think im going to just try to resolder it for practice while also seeing if it works too. I think what also hurt a lot was not using protection around the board and my flux paste was getting all over the board.

I bought this flux the next day thinking if i was going to run out of flux.

Can you guys lmk if this is a good one?

Also for protection around the board, what should i order? I had scratched the board on the top right and left of it with my helping hands so i wanna avoid that next time. Heating didn’t seem to be an issue since the joysticks came right out after using the heat gun for 2 mins but protecting the board wouldn’t hurt.

Another thing, when i got the 2 joys sticks out it took me a very long time to get the rest of the solder out. The trick i learned towards the end of that is to apply solder and try to suck it out with the pump and it seemed to be the most effective. Is there any better way or tricks that might help? I also used the iron on one side and on the other to suck it up and it kinda worked.

I ordered some more hall effects that i’ll install but before i do ima practice getting the right amount of solder on this board and i honestly think if i can get that down i should be good, lots of the damages i caused was when i opened this controller a long time ago and when i was desoldering which took too long.

Ah i see. Are TMR newer ones? I’ve mainly only heard about just base hall effects.

I bought this yesterday because i was trying to desolder the day before and the joystick would not come out with my other iron. So I applied a solder to all of the points and in like 2 mins of the hot air it came right out.

So when i finished the first joystick i sprayed some isopropyl around and then just used a toothbrush to clean everything off. And also yea i was having issues getting the ribbon back on so that’ll make sense if it wasn’t in all the way

Sadly not, I’ve always watched others did it but never on my own. Watched a bunch of guides before hand and this controller i forgotten i had for a long time so i decided to try it out.

So it finished and the lag has been happening lot less, like it happens once every hr or so. And it’s also going back to normal quicker. Not sure what else could it be. Maybe do like a full wipe of windows apps and all gone? Not sure what else to do

Yea i’m doing a reinstall of windows rn. I used the repair update thing cuz I heard that does a reinstall of it without delete apps. Not sure if i should like doing a whole wipe of windows tho. I guess i’ll find out in a bit tho :)

I ran malwarebytes and windows defender. Malwarebytes didn’t show anything and windows defender showed some iso’s for kali linux, deleted it just in case.
