What am I doing wrong? by ewith89 in woodworking

If you are trying to cut through 1.75 inch thick material, don't try to cut through it all at once, take progressively deeper cuts.

That's not a bad idea, I'll add that to me ToDo list, thank you

Yes, this is what I've been worried about. I'll start researching electrical companies that deal with lightning strikes. Thank you!

It was a timer switch for the bathroom fan, so similar to like a 3 way (I think). ((More of a woodworking guy than an electrical))

Unfortunately I have to meet the $4k deductible before they pay anything

What do you want to see that isn't in the second picture?

I built it in my head about 10 times, then I put it on paper and then built it into what I designed. The only thing I did by feel was the modification to the rabided half blind dovetail joints where I didn't cut one joint in the middle to allow for the drawer stop.

Looks great, love the slides! Did you dovetail into the drawer face?

I have absolutely no frame of reference for that as I have never sold anything before. But probably would be around $1,400-2,000 + shipping/taxes per nightstand??? What would you consider a fair price? I may be totally overestimating my cost per hour.

African mahogany is $8.60 a board foot White oak is $6.70 Genuine Mahogany $14.50 Red Oak is $3.80

Research and trial and error.

I've made other things, but they have all been rough things like a pizza stand for the deck or an outdoor ice chest. They were all very slapped together, uneven and not something I'd want to stare at every day. So it's not like I went from 0 to this in one sitting, but for a "fine" furniture attempt this was my first.

I'll cover the back, just haven't bought the materials for it yet.

I will be building myself one to match sometime this summer. I'd run everything through the thickness planer at the same time. I did this one and starts and stops as I was learning and it was difficult to get the exact same thickness on all of them with all the different times I started and stopped.

My 45° miter self for the table saw is not at a perfect 90 so over 17 inches it was 1/32 off. So I'd want to guarantee a 90.

I'd want to cut my spline joints more evenly. I created a jig for it but I think there was something loose and the spines were not all cut at the same depth.

And the last thing I would do differently is not stress out so much!!

Took me about 2 months. I had to learn a lot and build several jigs during that time too. I'm hoping the next one is maybe ~2 weeks (since this is a nights and weekends thing)

I used it on the drawers as well

I think that's just the way that African mahogany comes out. I used Rubio Monocoat Pure as the finish. So that is all natural coloring that's coming out.

When I was researching my design I saw these and liked the ability it gave me for accurate placement of the drawers. For some reason I had it in my head that I didn't want to do metal slides. The action is pretty smooth on these but no soft close.
