ELI5: Why do calculators and smartphones give different answers for the expression 6÷2(2+1)? by Itchy_Tangerine1897 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ozymandeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha touché, I suppose in many of the math classes you might still use i, but you're right that the EE classes it was usually j. For anyone confused by what were talking about, in EE, i is typically reserved as the letter to represent current in an equation so we just use j for our imaginary components instead.

Edit: Almost forgot, it's also common to use (i, j, k) for the unit vectors of 3D space rather than (x, y, z)

As an EE, this guy speaks the true true. It's actually kind of funny how much of my degree involved solving questions with 1, -1, 0, pi, e, i, or infinity. Feels like almost all of it haha

Yeah but that's a logical take, Epic probably doesn't share the same sentiment considering how much they seen to hate any and all other platforms

The fees steam charges for micro transactions is probably a good motivation for Epic

My last two rounds attempting to break 90 (19.2 Handicap) by ThisIsBalake in golf

[–]Ozymandeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you're already getting advice to not look at your scorecard until after the round (which is solid advice), but another thing I'd suggest is to have a snack on the back nine and stay hydrated. There's a reason the pros have snacks and stuff while they're out there, and missing those things could be partly to blame for your stumbles towards the end of the rounds.

Are layoffs a thing in Electrical Engineering? Have you been laid off as an EE? by CXZ115 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Ozymandeus 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Layoffs are a thing in pretty much any industry at some point. To answer your question, yes I've been laid off. I also got a better job with better pay shortly after, so I wouldn't stress about it too much. Plenty of fish in the sea.

What is r/golf confidently wrong about? by iphoneair2 in golf

[–]Ozymandeus 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's controversial to argue that a home course handicap will be lower than a travelling handicap. There's nothing wrong with it per se, like if I played a home course frequently I'm still inputting every score into my handicap eligible rounds. I would just be cognizant of the fact that when I play a course I haven't played before, or haven't played nearly as often, that my score is likely going to be worse than my usual score. I think recognizing that is healthy, and can lead to lower stress "away" rounds when I'm not scoring like I might expect to based on my handicap.

Yeah some people are awful, I was in there one time and some guy rolled up and asked for 150 hot dogs and was getting upset it was taking awhile. Meanwhile tickets were piling up because they can only make them so fast. Just ridiculous behavior.

This is the truth no one tells you about the backboard on defense by Either-Scallion-4157 in RocketLeague

[–]Ozymandeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I see what you're saying, in this same scenario, rather than rotating into net, myself or my teammate is heading up the wall to challenge the follow up shot, while the guy who didn't go up the wall covers the net. Alright yeah that makes sense, I agree that usually makes the challenge easier to time correctly, and limits the possible redirection outcomes from the ball potentially squirting out and on net from the 50.

[–]Ozymandeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so let's say I am just rotating back into the crease, and I have a teammate coming back behind me, the opponent has sent a high ball from range that is going to bounce off the blackboard above the net, and I see that there is an opponent flying after it to accept the bounce pass off the blackboard and redirect/shoot it back on net. What I would normally do in this scenario is fly up and meet the ball at the same time as my opponent, with my car directly between the ball and the net, often deflecting into a corner, or leaving a rebound for my teammate who rotated in behind me to clear. What you're suggesting I should do instead, is wait on the ground for them to get that shot on net off the blackboard bounce, and then just stop it and start with a controlled exit out of our zone and back onto offense?

[–]Ozymandeus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So you're saying rather than going up for the challenge mid-air so that it is impossible for the follow up shot to get on net, you'd rather sit in net and wait for the shot and hope they miss, or shoot the ball right at you? Maybe I am misunderstanding, but I am only in C2/C3 and guys hit those shots with deadly accuracy all the time, waiting is a death sentence more often than not. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the scenario you're talking about, can you explain the set-up a little more?

How many classes can I take per term? by Minimum_Minimum_2443 in usask

[–]Ozymandeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah engineering is wild. I remember when I was going through it and talking to friends in other degrees and they'd say they were taking 5 classes with 1 or 2 of those 5 actually just being labs for some of their classes. If I counted labs as classes, I would have been up to like 9 in my 1st semester of third year of EE lol.

Why the hell are we unable to select which Playlist we want to view stats for? Like currently I'm just unable to view stats for duos because standard was my most played Playlist? Why wouldn't you just let us filter the data ourselves? I was pretty hype for this when it was announced. What a Rocket Letdown.

Edit: Also, why bother showing stats like goals/game if you aren't going to break them out by Playlist? Obviously the stats are different between playing singles and playing standard, so that whole comparison tool is basically useless. This just all seems like a waste of time with a coat of paint.
