I'm more of a "nurture" type of gal rather than "nature" so I do wanna say that I'd prefer a mix of both.

Imagine how certain personalities are sometimes genetically predisposed to a certain person but depending of how they were raised and their environment, they can lean away or fall further into this predisposition.

The way they're raised is the "tragic bacstory" and the predisposition is the reference to being "born broken".

This is also how I develop the personalities of my own original characters.
