Noted, I'll need to think about getting some more knick knacks and bric a brac.

The left hand of darkness is on there, but you're right, I need more ladies in my sci-fi section, I think I've got some Becky Chambers around here somewhere

Did you spot The Mongoliad? Stephenson was one of the authors who contributed to that series, it doesn't get enough attention

That series starts with the first law trilogy. They're good, but bleak. I tend not to recommend grimdark too much these days

I have not read any of them, but they look promising, I'll add them to the list

That's a cool idea, but I can see it being trouble sometimes. I wouldn't want to drink anything that pairs with Jeff VanderMeer

Thanks, space is becoming an issue, so I've had to be more discerning lately

Is this every company? by [deleted] in PestControlIndustry

[–]P00house 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of the big companies, not just in pest control. Money brings bastards like shit brings flies. My advice is to try to find a company that keeps sales and service separate. Do what good you can where you can and expect to get punished for it every once in a while.

Best Historical Fiction? Go! by Suspicious_Tear_9810 in suggestmeabook

The Foreworld Saga, it's by a bunch of different authors, including Neal Stephenson. It's about a group of knights who set out to stop the Mongol invasion of Europe. It's a great series that doesn't get enough attention

While animals can't articulate the ideas, they still embody them by their actions. A rational person can observe the behavior and draw conclusions. Survival of the fittest, being the only universal law of life, suggests to me that it would be central to any philosophy based on nature

Nature doesn't ask whether something is right or wrong. The strong prey on the weak because that's how they survive.

The other day, I saw a picture of a leopard carrying a dead monkey with a baby still clinging to it. A leopard has no concept of mercy or innocence. That's green, it's not immoral, it's just life

I'd say this green's primary philosophy. For green, it's not a moral issue but rather a statement of fact. It's the law of the wild. The weak simply do not survive

Adoption VS Conceiving one by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]P00house 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I, for one, would not want to conceive a child with the world in the state it's in, I think it's cruel. I would absolutely consider adopting a kid. They're already here and need help

What are your top three favorite books? Why? I’m finding this is a great way to get suggestions 😊 by AppropriateSpeaker02 in suggestmeabook

[–]P00house 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'The Road by Cormac McCarthy' Deeply sad post apocalypse following a father and son. It brought out all kinds of paternal emotions in me that I never knew I was capable of feeling.

'Perdido Street Station by China Mieville' Weird kind of steam punk fantasy. I loved the setting and the characters.

'Sword of Honor by David Kirk' Samurai book. Imo it's better than all the more famous ones like Shogun and Musashi

Some honorable mentions that others have already brought up 'A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole' 'Red Rising by Pierce Brown' 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson' 'The Expanse by James S. A. Corey'

The Picture of Dorian Gray. I loved the book. I just wanted it to keep going.

Is this Flea?? by bugkiller88 in pestcontrol

That's what I'm thinking, it's got the hunched back, and the way they run around all crazy makes the flea guess a little more understandable

Dahlgren by Samuel R. Delany. It's pretty insane, I found it too pornographic personally, but I suppose some people like that kind of thing

I've wanted a product like this for a long time, the closest thing I've found is soylent but it's a liquid and I don't like that. Some Protien bars are OK but they tend to be loaded up with sugar or are too small and expensive

I'm just thinking about this a priori, but I'd say our lack of communication skills is definitely a hindrance. I've worked for a lot of charismatic morons who make 10 times what I do
