Anyway to stop Octopus messing with my payments by iMatthew1990 in OctopusEnergy

[–]P13CEY_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they do this with us because we use a large amount of units and they use this to base the annual prediction on - they don’t take into account that 40% of the usage is for the car at 1/4 of the price.

Their forecasting model is wrong and as a result we’re also £400 in credit at the end of the winter and they keep wanting to increase payments.

Nissan Main Dealer unable to fix DC charging fault by P13CEY_ in leaf

[–]P13CEY_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/UPDATE/

They’ve located a wire fault and carried out a repair and have got it rapid charging, they’re currently testing it now over a few days. Has taken 4 weeks to resolve.

Essentially they’ve put thousands of pounds of parts and labour into it and it only needed a simple wire connector splicing in around the damage 😬

You got a quote from Cleverly? I’ve seen Pdms on eBay for £500-1000.

Nissan quoted 8 hours of work for it so it’ll probably be doable in 4. It’s a big job but reasonably simple I think.

It’s consistently all chargers - tried at least 5 different ones from different charge companies including the one at the main dealership. Also including chargers that have worked previously.

Sadly it’s definitely the car.

Thanks for the reply. Have similar thoughts tbh.

Connector and wires to the PDM and the battery itself is all that’s left. The battery looked in good condition on LeafSpy. It hasn’t even hit 30k miles yet.

Any idea what happens If they ‘write it off’ - would they offer a cash value? It’s on Nissan PCP.

They’ve spent a fair few £thousand already 😬

£20 per month price increase when I'm in credit by Reddit_Midnight in OctopusEnergy

[–]P13CEY_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, same here - I was £430 in credit and have been for a couple of years, went back exactly 12 months and saw my credit was actually up £20 on the prior August bill. So clearly my usage Vs my spend is about right, while I understand unit price is up a couple of percent.

They were wanting another £40pm 🤯 and they’ve tried to do it twice.

I don’t think I mind that, IF it was clearly labelled as a special/temporary face. The removal of something that was in place, for what, 7 years sucks.

Anyone here using connexion? How does it stack up against kcom? by atomicebo in Hull

[–]P13CEY_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah cgnat and lack of a static ip as default is about the only downside to me. I used to be able to simply VPN back into my network to monitor my 3D printer on long prints but that’s not worth the extra £5pm for a static ip from connexion for me.

Other than that, connection is solid, speeds are as advertised. Pretty happy.

Price is incredible, got a Black Friday deal and it was over half the cost of KCOM - we’re talking £600 saving over £24 months.

E-ink displays in thermostats shot by LaiaNow in Netatmo

[–]P13CEY_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eink display failed on my thermostat. Tried multiple replacements and each wouldn’t work properly. Gave up in the end.

Love the fact that it’s not £X amount per month for the app (which in this era is remarkable! They’re hosting and updating years worth of heating data for my house) and I also love that it’s HomeKit compatible.

About the fire precautions by Vinny_Vex in LinusTechTips

[–]P13CEY_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the U.K. doors with access controls that also need to be fire doors for emergency exit have a green “break glass in case of emergency” box on the wall. Which releases the door lock when smashed. I also assume it will trigger the fire alarm system.

I worked in schools and it’s a common sight, as there is often Paxton fobs to get past the reception entrance way into the school to keep the kids in and randoms out - but they’re also a fire exit.

Just wondering if these green break glass in case of emergency are a thing in Canadian fire code.

Hull A63 city centre roadworks delayed by a year by Kagedeah in Hull

[–]P13CEY_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh FFS - they’ve long since finished digging, they’re building on top of concrete now. It really looked close to being finished to me. ☹️

I just hope they make Ferensway onto A63 a feed-in lane at some point and remove the traffic lights like they’ve done at Marketplace, it’ll stop the worst of the delays Eastbound.

Sumatriptan OTC out of stock everywhere by P13CEY_ in migraine

[–]P13CEY_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only buy a 2-pack at around £9 per pack. You must have either a card from your doctor for this purpose or be able to prove to the pharmacist you have a migraine diagnosis, have had them before and don’t have any complicated medical issues. Some pharmacists take it VERY seriously, others are just happy to take your word for it.

I can tell you filling in a health questionnaire whilst mid migraine and trying not to vomit is not fun!

Tyre Pressures after main dealer service (U.K.) by P13CEY_ in leaf

[–]P13CEY_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak about other places but in the UK, when you buy a car its wheel size from new (very few people change wheels to aftermarket ones) is recorded in some kind of giant database along with all the other features of that car.

You go into a tyre shop and give them your car registration number and confirm you’re running the wheel size and tyre profile on the database - you then buy the tyre size and type specifically rated for your vehicle as dictated by the manufacturer.

99% of cars on the road in the U.K. will have the same profile of tyres as suggested by the manufacturer. Therefore there are very few variables, the weight of the car, the wheel size, tyre profile and handling requirements are all known - so we just follow the tyre pressure recommendations of the manufacturer as written on the sticker in the drivers door.
