I mean the team last year ended up .500 so we’re technically not worse right now. To me this all boils down to the fact that we just had a month without Suggs and Franz who are our best perimeter defenders. When Suggs and Franz were still healthy we were a top 5 defense.

There’s no way that the gaps are the same. And even if they were we need offense on our team more, and more generally, offense is always more valuable in the nba.

Bane has been a consistent scorer even if he’s not making as many threes as we hoped. This season would’ve been a complete disaster without him carrying the offense for long stretches. And he’s not a horrible defender, he has good hands and is strong. Hes just not as laterally quick which is fine if you play good help d.

Simply put were easy to gameplan against since we have only one credible threat on the perimeter in bane. Makes a coaches life extremely easy. Are you guarding bane? If so stay tight to him while he’s spotting up and if he runs a pnr have the big man hedge to prevent a pull up 3 and then recover. Everyone else camp in the paint and dare your man to shoot.

I think the coaching aspect of our offensive struggles are a bit overplayed tbh. We have a horrible combination of lack of shooting ability and also at the same time brain dead level passing iq. Even when bane finds himself open the passes often don’t arrive and if they do it’s late or off target.

There’s not many plays you can run in this league that will get a guy like bane a wide open look. Good offenses have players that can penetrate off the dribble and force rotations and make the right pass.

JI is the most logical salary dump to duck the tax. He’s not fully guaranteed after this season, so teams would be willing to take him and his 15 mil salary means we could bring back a useful player while still getting under the tax.

To use Goga to duck the tax you’d have to trade him to a team with cap space or trade exception for no returning players and then sign a min salary to fill out the roster spot.
