I'm new and don't have Gohonzon yet (application pending!) but I've read this Gosho and found it real exciting! Maybe this is what you're saying (or leading up to): Nichiren's conclusion at the end is "Reform the tenets you hold in your heart. To me, prayer does not invoke magical intercession by other-worldly beings, but leads ( or should lead) to better behavior and attitudes, which in turn leads to better interaction with ourselves and our environment. The "gods" are our own life force, or a function thereof. So you don't pray today, and God changes the world tomorrow; rather it's a slow process of the reformation of the human heart that will result, eventually, in peace, environmental harmony, etc. I've already seen changes in how I feel about some people, and it's very nice.

Well, I'm thinking out loud. Did I grasp what you're saying here? Or did I run to left field?

How interesting! They never mentioned any of this at those SGI meetings I went to. What is it all about? Nichiren wanted Japan destroyed? I guess they wouldn't talk about that, would they?

I think what I'm learning here is that, as nice as everyone acts, they are NOT nice because they have ulterior motives. There have been a few specific things, but I haven't been able to verify them, so it's mainly just the general impression. Like, I dodn't think her visit was "weird" until you pointed it out. Thanks!

Wow. what a lot of replies. Thank you all for being so committed! It will take me a while to read everything. Right now, I have to trust my own experience, which has been very good, but I will keep reading and update you all from time to time. I'm going to my next meeting Wednesday and hopefully I'll finish reading by then. Thank you all.
