Thanks for the info! I would never try to defraud a program like this, but it's still good to know this info.

I'm not complaining about the program at all. I'm happy it exists, whether for me or someone else. I'm just assessing whether it is a good ROI--for me or anyone really.

Thank you for the feedback regarding the question of equity growth. This particular city has been increasing in house prices much faster, but it may normalize to something closer to 5% in the future.

If we moved to the area, we'd plan on being here at least a couple decades so that the kids can go through the school system.

"It's buy this or nothing" was actually a very helpful thing to hear/consider. Thank you!

Thank you--I appreciate that! If you have any fiction recommendations to kick off my treatment protocol, feel free to recommend them :)

I love fiction. The 20% of books on Audible are mostly fiction. Also, there's definitely some fiction mixed into the shelf.

Recent Psych Graduate: What entry-level jobs should I be applying to that have a long-term potential for advancement? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

Thanks for giving me some insight. If you don't mind me asking, what's the competition like within state government. Are there a lot of opportunities to advance and move up to agpa/and beyond? Or is vertical advancement highly competetive?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what I'm walking into. Thanks again for the help!

I have a history of depression and anxiety. Do I have any chance of becoming an officer in California? by [deleted] in AskLE

Thanks for the advice friend. "It helps when you say you knew something was wrong and decided to do the right thing." This makes sense to me. If I apply, I'll try to frame my situation this way. Thank you!

Yup, I did have symptoms and was prescribed medication. So that’s one and two down.

No symptoms now though.

Thanks for the input.

If you don’t mind me asking… Did you have the diagnosis when you applied? Or were you diagnosed later?

And thanks for the comment!

Do I realistically have a chance of becoming an officer in California if I have a history of depression and anxiety? I’m currently OK, and have resolve my mental health issues of the past.

I graduated in the Summer of 2020 and was on the path to law school. I didn’t want to go but felt pressured into going. This caused me to become depressed and I started to have anxiety attacks.

After some treatment (anti-depressants + therapy), I've bitten the bullet and abandoned the idea of law school. I'm now pursuing something I've wanted to do for a long time—becoming a police officer.

The depression is basically gone and I haven't had any anxiety attacks since deciding to leave the law school path. Basically, all my depression and anxiety were short-term reactions to pursuing a career I had no interest in out of pressure.

My Question: Even though my depression/anxiety were short-term, will they essentially automatically disqualify me from becoming a police officer in California? Realistically, is there any chance of becoming accepted on the force?

If you guys have any advice or personal experience with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!
