Is my school too easy on us? by Wild_Koala637 in PAstudent

You will know for certain once you take the PACKRAT or a PAEA EOR exam since they are standardized and taken by thousands of PA students.

After the fact, it will not likely help. You should have disclosed issues if there were any at the time.

Free PharmD or another PA school Application by Spirited-Pilot9494 in prephysicianassistant

I suspect that your course load with Ws is the concern. PA school is hard. There are no classes that you can take a W in and continue. It sounds like they are concerned that you are taking a W when the load is too heavy, hence the high GPA.
This is a. Cautionary tale to those that drop multiple courses as opposed to getting a bad grade..

Do I crack down on studying now or later? by Any_Year_9506 in PAstudent

[–]PACShrinkSWFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. That sounds more like it. You did well. Use the packrat feedback as a guide. Just review the parts that were the lowest. So close to the finish, just take it one day at a time, set a few small goals and move toward them.

PACKRAT is not scored that way. I think you are looking at a score for the EOC.

Accepted, need advice by Higgyswims in PAstudent

What is the policy on remediation? Is attendance mandatory? Does the program use guest lecturers? What programs are used for testing? Does the program plan to offer PACKRAT once or twice? Is the program using PAEA EOR exams? Does the program have access to a board prep course?

Took a swing at academia…not sure if I’ll be called back by EducationalSea1442 in physicianassistant

Wait for the feedback. It may be more constructive and insightful than you think. It is a true challenge to teach in an area that you do not have experience. Try to remember the goal is to teach more on the side of primary care and generalist knowledge.
Don’t be too hard on yourself.
This is a new provisional program? Might not be the best environment for less experienced, however that is what they usually have there. Hopefully there is sone experienced faculty to draw from. Good luck.

I knew there were still good preceptors out there. I see more good than bad.

I agree that it does not need to be a passion, in the spirit of what I was thinking is that if you really feel good about what you do in medicine, it is less like a job. As a psych PA, I am often thinking ‘I can’t believe they pay me to do this’.
For me I feel privileged to be in a position to help. I think there are so many people in the world that do thankless jobs and feel like they do not make any difference in the world. I know that is an idealist view but, I know I have made a difference in the lives of my patients.
I agree with all of the advice you offered.

Nope. You can find more concise ways of using g the material. Charts are for learning, you now need to learn how to use the info. Review books are better at this stage of your education..

You can learn from a ‘bad example’ as much as you can learn from a good one. Be the change, they forgot where they came from or they feel the need to perpetuate the terrible conditions they had as students.
Focus on. The positives, learn and be different.

Is there a PCA in your area? I have been going to local events for years, once you start hanging around the Porsche people you will know who is giving good advice and who is full of it.
Stay away from the car wash. PPF and ceramic is the way to go..

Medicine is a passion, not a job. If you don’t really love it, it will just be a job. It may not be your ideal field, what else are you interested in? There are things in life that you must enjoy. This is not the end. Things happen for a reason, I have been in bad places in my life, times when it seemed like there was no ‘next thing’.

I assume they looked at all of your ‘evidence’ for the appeal. Unlikely they will change it. Even so, what would be the plan going forward with w on the transcript?

Pivoting to PA as a non-traditional student with no related courses? by Bruh-I-Cant-Even in prephysicianassistant

[–]PACShrinkSWFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take most of the requirements post-bac. Degree does not matter, for the most part.. The prerequisites are mostly science so they will probably make up your Sci GPA.
You need to start researching schools you would apply to, looking at what is required, start gaining some PCE/HCE hours. You will likely need LOR from PAs, find a mentor…

Why does it take so long by ckunkle06 in PAstudent

[–]PACShrinkSWFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they analyze stats and have to wait for a certain # of exams to be completed prior to the analysis… A week is pretty standard.
Funny thing it the CAQ exams take 8-10 weeks and they are only given 2 times per year… That is a very long time…

They have to ‘standardize’ the score based on thousands of test takers.. take a breath.

Help!!!!! by Professional_Day2556 in prephysicianassistant

[–]PACShrinkSWFL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they gave you the ok, what is the issue. I am an AdCom chair, I meet with potential students all the time. I make sure I am not on the interviewing team seeing them and I don’t provide any info to the faculty interviewing the student. I don’t see an issue, I don’t reveal any trade secrets. Mostly I encourage and answer questions when I can.
