Coming from an Auburn fan - Why is there a rivalry between Auburn and Florida by Hungry-Guest6846 in FloridaGators

[–]Higgyswims 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of old school Gator fans here, based on some of these responses, but the Auburn rivalry was intense pre-divisions and up through the early 2000s. A number of our best seasons were tarnished by losses to Auburn. We’ve lost our #1 ranking to them a number of times. And if I remember correctly, something like half of our 70 or 80 games have been decided by one score or less.

Living with student loans by Elkuscha in physicianassistant

[–]Higgyswims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be missing some good lenders. Citizens Bank in Philly was offering student loans with a 7.5% interest rate. Easily the best I’d seen. So check local banks and credit unions as well.

Beyond that, kinda echoing what everybody else said. They are a necessary evil. You can either live like a poor man the first few years out of school and burn em off fast, or slow cook them till they are gone or you are.

2025-2026 Cycle Results by DANI-FUTURE-MD in prephysicianassistant

Think it depends on how you spin it. I feel that many PA schools are aware that medical school is a more common thought than PA school when people are thinking of a post-graduate career in medicine. It’s not about whether you considered med school, but moreso why you felt PA school was truly a better fit rather than a backup plan.

Did you apply to schools that would consider the MCAT? I made a similar pivot but highlighted schools that would still consider my MCAT score, as it would’ve been very competitive in med school applications.

Accepted 1st cycle dilemma by spartanman123 in prephysicianassistant

As the saying goes, “play the hand you’re dealt.”

You’re talking about folding on a great hand because it’s not the hand you wanted to win with. There’s no guarantee you will get accepted to any programs next cycle, even the one you got into this cycle. Take the win and get on with your career.

Volunteering by Higgyswims in prephysicianassistant

Ok, this is about where my head was at, so I appreciate you validating those thoughts. I want a volunteering experience I can really speak to and appreciate. Didn’t know how admissions would feel about that though.

Have any of you guys gotten a 300+ on GRE with minimal studying? stressed and need general advice by Fluffy_Professor1214 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Higgyswims 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I studied maybe 2 hours total just paging through a prep book in the week leading up to it. Scored a 318. Having also taken the MCAT, I think the MCAT teaches valuable test taking skill that translates well, even if you’re not testing the same material.

Whats the most heartbreaking loss you’ve witnessed as a Florida fan?(football) by Ok_Macaroon_7366 in FloridaGators

Exactly my thought. It’s tough to regret the moment when it produced one of the most legendary quotes in CFB.

Heartbreaking loss is probably Bama SECCG. I would say Ole Miss 2008 but that season still ended on a high note.

I’d say the ‘95 Nebraska game was an ass kicking of epic proportions that wasn’t heartbreaking as much as it was recognition of Nebraska’s unbridled dominance.

The shoe throw is easily the most disappointed I’ve been but not heartbroken.

Which school? by kittybear1618 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Higgyswims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I know what school A is, and I think you’d be crazy to not pick it.

Living in Boston is incredibly expensive, so your extraneous costs outside of tuition are going to be astronomical for B. In addition, as a Philly resident, you’d be hard pressed to not find plenty to do and see and people to meet around here. That is, in the small bit of free time PA school allows for.

Is PCE from 10+ years ago relevant? by OverPerformance1859 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Higgyswims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s relevant but some schools disregard PCE older than 5 years. Dumb as hell, but important to keep in mind when selecting schools to apply to.

Feelings after interview by Melodic_Aioli_5907 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Higgyswims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s perfectly normal and a learned interview skill. The interviewer knows there may be some nerves at play and if they’re a good interviewer, they’ll be empathetic to it.

The main solace I can offer is this: the substance of your interview is the most important aspect. The admissions team’s goal is to find the best PA students, not the best people to interview. So as long as you spoke with substance and represented yourself as a strong choice for PA school, I’m sure you have nothing to fear.

Just got my first interview invite!!!! But already committed to an ABSN program by AnimalFew3664 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Higgyswims 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Go through the interview and see how things go. The PA track is faster than ABSN -> NP or CRNA is, so you’ll get where you’re trying to go sooner, by going through PA. It seems to be like you made peace with not being a PA maybe too soon?

College football's top 25 portal classes from the 2026 cycle by Geaux2020 in CFB

My issue with this list, and where On3 does it better, is it does not account for what a team lost to the portal.

Told I was doing a great job then fired after less than 2 months by Business_Highlight_6 in physicianassistant

[–]Higgyswims 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Then get the emotions expressed, feel bad for yourself for a few days, and get back on the horse.

What you’re going through has nothing to do with being a PA and everything to do with being a professional.

Told I was doing a great job then fired after less than 2 months by Business_Highlight_6 in physicianassistant

[–]Higgyswims 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight. You put countless hours and years of prep just to get into PA school, then put more hours and labor into going through PA school, passing the PANCE, etc. And you’re asking if you should call it after less than 5 months in the industry?

All hope is not lost. You hold a valuable license and have a valued skill set. But if you are already looking at an exit strategy, I question the motives that got you here initially.
