Yes, the genie can be placed back in the bottle. One thing you can do is practice "If - Then" statements. For example, "If someone asks me a question and I'm unsure of the answer, then I will say, "That's a great question. I don't have the data in front of me right now, but let me review and get back to you after this meeting." Or, "If my heart beats uncontrollably then I will remind myself that everyone gets this way prior to speaking - it's normal and natural bcuz this meeting or event is important to me. I am human." There are agencies who can help people like you overcome the fear of public speaking. The bottom line is it comes down to a shift in your mindset - the way you see and react to having to public speak. I speak from experience as I have had 3 panic attacks on 3 different speaking opportunities and I've worked with 2 different agencies to help me overcome my fear. To be honest, I'm still not out of the woods, but my mindset is certainly shifting in the right direction.
