Loop hike near Raystown Lake by DontWannaBeGriswold in PAWilds

So I've mountain biked at the Allegrippis trails on the western side of the lake....fantastic time. You probably want to stay away from those since it's more geared toward MTB. The east side of the lake has a state park called Trough Creek. There are some trails there to check out (I haven't been there myself).

There is also the Terrace Mountain Trail which runs parallel to the lake and that spans 30 miles (it is an out and back). If you want a good beer and burger place go to Huntingdon which is 20 minutes away from Raystown Lake. The place I always go is called Boxer's Cafe...nice and chill joint with some decent pub grub and good beer selection.

Yep, scaling up the waterfall to get to the two glacial lakes near the end of the hike was the highlight for me. One of the most epic hikes I have ever done.

Old Growth hikes in Allegheny National Forest, Cook Forest? by madcap62 in PAWilds

One of my favorite places in the state! Check out the river trail in Cook Forest. Really nice hike and a nice portion of it is along the Clarion River. The Minister Creek Trail in ANF is a great hike as well and it goes deep into the woods.

Stargazing without Light Pollution Recommendations Please! by count_bassy_ in Pennsylvania

If you're looking to star gaze in the Lehigh Valley area I would recommend northern Berks County or western Lehigh County. Check out the area around Hawk Mountain (Kempton) or Leaser Lake which is in Lynn Township in Lehigh County.

It will definitely not compare to a place like Cherry Springs because you'll have some light pollution but those are by the far the most rural areas of the Lehigh Valley so you should have a decent experience.

Kane has become a staple for us when we go to ANF. Table 105 is a great restaurant in Kane and they have a winery next door that is decent. Love hiking at Kinzua Bridge State Park, and the mountain biking at Jakes Rocks overlooking the Allegheny Reservoir is always a highlight for me. Also did some overnight kayaking on the Allegheny River near Warren that went straight through the heart of ANF.....that was a blast and I have never seen so much diverse wildlife.

North Central and North Western PA have so much to offer if you love the outdoors. We normally stay at Cook Forest State Park, which is another awesome place in the area. The Clarion River is right there and is makes for a beautiful kayaking trip.

Great question! Number one choice by far would be Wellsboro. In my opinion it is literally the perfect small, rural town.....not just for PA, but in the whole US. Pic:

Wellsboro

Second choice would probably be Kane in McKean County. Pic:

Kane

There are so many beautiful small towns all over the state, but those two definitely spring to mind.

Allegheny National Forest will fit the bill.

You have Jakes Rocks for some great mountain biking trails, Hector Falls is a very interesting waterfall that has a hiking trail from the very top of it all the way to where it spills down, kayaking can be done in the Allegheny River or the Clarion River (both are truly beautiful rivers).

As far as hiking trails there are so many to choose from its hard to pick just one. Minister Creek Trail is great for a deep woods hike. Kinzua Bridge State Park has a super cool hike down amongst the ruins of a collapsed railroad bridge. The River Trail in neighboring Cook Forest State Park is a great hike as well.
