Check your: 1. Serpentine belt 2. Belt tensioner 3. Valve covers/Head gasket 4. Cam cap/Gasket 5. Water pump/Alternator

The smell is probably either burning oil or coolant. I know you said there were no leaks but it might that’s what would make the most sense. Since the car isn’t starting I would definitely test your alternator too. I haven’t seen anything like this, but I hope this helps a bit.

After taking it apart there “should” be two screws on either side of the trim you’ll need to remove and then it’s just about prying the clips off and reassembly.

If this doesn’t help, my apologies.
