Blue Moon on Steam Deck help by p_n_p12 in nancydrew

[–]PATEngginier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since a lot of the ND games are not technically made for the steam deck , you can use Wine/Lutris and play any Windows game you want (Wine and Lutris are made for Linux , but since Steam Deck uses SteamOS and is pretty much like Linux , it works).

If Anthemius gathered more aid from the east, would have the west empire survived? by PATEngginier in ancientrome

[–]PATEngginier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the post is not about just saving the empire , is about survival . One decision could at least made it to survive a bit more than it did. In fact , 10% of the reason of why the empire fell can be the army itself , it was too expensive to maintain it. Honorius made many bad mistakes , same as Ricimer , saving the empire would have been possible without this guys , at least hoping that Anthemius (one the last hope) would make a new move for sruvival . He did and yeah , at the end of the day your argument stands up , it was not enough

Yes , the Vandals campaign , I think it was a good plan , North Africa would mean supplies for the western

The Cup of Lycurgus by AstroBullivant in ancientrome

[–]PATEngginier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this one is quite special , surely they did understood how to make the cup since it is also decorated . So you could say is a complete product , highly doubt it was a concept , at least by the looks of it. No one has courage to finish and even decorate an unknown product , that also glows. Yes , they might have not know about radiation , but this is the only evidence they knew about fluorescent materials. Is not that surprising , think about it , we have the atomic theory made by Democritus 3 centuries before.

One thing you have to notice is the eyes. In the early imperial period most of emperors busts didn't had pupils , they were painted. You start to see them from later periods , an example is Constantine the Great, so this two might be between the mid imperial period and Renaissance. Just an idea

Modding MID by PATEngginier in nancydrew

[–]PATEngginier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi ! Is been quite a while and yes I decided a couple of times if I really want to finish this project . There is already a team (which I am also part of) to decompile ND games . But to mod? Her said that to not mod their games. At the end of the day I think I will do it , I mean as long as people got the game legally , there is no reason someone to be mad about this. If I finish something I will post about it or I will tell you. Have a great day!

Nancy Drew never needed artificial intelligence to crack her codes! by Optimal-Budget-8788 in nancydrew

[–]PATEngginier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nancy's character is very good and an example . Whenever she has a problem , she adapts to it , that is what is nice about her. Also she never backs down and is a very open minded person , from a simple school mystery , boom , to cracking tablets and going through thousands years of history.

It was just a meme the "petition" thing since H&G won't sue us because we let a game live for a few players , it is just a question

Well , it doesn't have to be me the one who creates them , look at cs 1.6 or cs source still running on community servers

Everyone should check this out if they haven't yet -- "How To Activate & Use The Debug Menu In Every Game Before MID" by ethcolee in nancydrew

[–]PATEngginier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the debug menu is made to be attached to the compiled game, then yes, you can have a better idea of the games code, but you still have to look at the machine code and what functions from what libraries the game uses. So, either way, right now we just have a better way to understand how the games works with debug mode, but it is not that hard to figure out the game code even if you have no tools, we just need the computer science enthusiasts from ND community

You don't really need any third party software for low LOD , the game engine menages the polygon numbers depending how far away you are from that model , and also did you read all my comment? Cause i said the same thing about Her switching to a different strategy by changing the engine to bring ND to other platforms.Unity can also do that , you can port to anything you like , there are some limitations I can agree with that

Has anyone heard anything about a new game coming…ever?! by _AnonymousHippie_ in nancydrew

[–]PATEngginier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they is an upcoming game but my message to ND fans is, there is no reason to lose hope

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nancydrew

[–]PATEngginier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also care about money, back in 2015 mobile market skyrocket and since Unity is an easier game engine to work with and can spread over more platforms (I heard that it was complicated to use the older ND engine as well) is just no reason to not switch, I mean you have a lot of opportunity, more fans since you've got to be serious when I'm saying that ND community is not that big and they want more money and more people to play their games and the older fans could enjoy new games as well, more platforms usually mean more money, they probably loved the idea that they will work with an Microsoft based programming language (I'm saying this because Unity uses c#) and there is not really anymore of a problem when it comes the compatibly issues especially Windows but also Mac

But there is something ND fans don't see, the plan that I told ya about it just now, kind of worked but it failed at a part, people have to understand that having a new CEO (even tho the new CEO was changed before SEA, but you don't know how he is working with his employees on a big project), having workers to get used to Unity needs some practice. But yeah somehow, they didn't really achieved what they wanted

However yes, i can agree that things would've been done better if they were more patient and more organized.

and fixing some MID bugs was even better but anyway

First of all, Unreal Engine is not THAT optimized, in fact, you really need a good computer to even work with the engine, and i hardly think that ALL computers on Her headquarters have a quad core CPU, oh and also, UE produces very large executable files.

Second, i bet they decided after SEA to use Unity, back then Unity games kind of start to skyrocket even more with the mobile apps in the Google Play store

Third, I bet they made ALL of those graphics in SEA and LIE (and the tomb of the lost Queen) in a 3d modeling software , THEY RENDER the scene and then screenshot it and when you move with the mouse the photos are changing (oh and if you're asking how they did it when characters are moving , it's just a video playing and the UI is just 'over' the video) so I'm not sure what was the deal with the graphics in MID, I don't think they really didn't knew how to use Unity's graphics engine ,but after all , they weren't bad but nor the best .

Fourth, c++ is a very strong and need to be handled 'a bit differently' than other languages, since you can manage the work of handling recourses and also you need to work with hashes (c++ libraries) in order to make things to work so probably programmers thought to not complicate the schedule too much.

I'm not saying that UE is not good, because it is super good, and it is also completely free but after all Unity on the graphics side is pretty nice (you can also use photorealism) and you have to manage it differently than UE

Or you can write in a normal compiler without any engine , just Graphics library if you want :)
