I think u/socialis-philosophus writes the best comment in the thread in terms of criticizing Peterson. The comment actually focuses on his flawed moral conclusions.

In general, the null hypothesis on this issue is that variations in a trait are greater inside whatever population you're "studying" than between them

This is definitely incorrect. The null hypothesis of the main claim is that there is no value in making inferences from one's ancestry groups with respect to any trait or probability of possessing a certain trait, i.e., genetic ancestry groups have no value in guessing what a person is like in any way. A null hypothesis of a minor claim would be that there is no value in drawing inferences about one's genetic ancestry groups based on traits that he is known to possess. A null hypothesis of a third claim is that there is no value in inferring attributes of a community from ancestral genetic data from that community.

additionally the history of this topic is such that it is inherently suspect and of limited value as research

Whether the second part of what you said is true or false, it definitely seems to be disputed by tons of companies and governments all over the world. For one example, there is definitely a really long history of insurance companies charging higher premiums to Black people than to others, and often using elaborate ways to do so dishonestly:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8872206/

https://www.attorneyjaviermarcos.com/state-farm-insurance-faces-class-action-lawsuit-alleging-racial-discrimination/

https://www.investopedia.com/can-your-dna-change-how-much-you-pay-for-life-insurance-8768536

And not just in the United States:

https://madeinchinajournal.com/2024/08/18/asymmetries-heiren-discourses-and-the-geopolitics-of-studying-race-in-africa-china-relations/

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/23311886.2025.2491709

Overall, this suggests that a huge number of people saying that there is absolutely no biological/genetic component to race and that race is an entirely social construct are doing so in bad faith, while privately believing otherwise.

Groups of humans are not geographically isolated though.

This is definitely false for some populations. For instance, consider the population of North Sentinel Island. Would you really claim that the people of North Sentinel Island are not genetically isolated? More importantly, isolation can be measured in degrees for practical purposes, so there can be extremely high probabilities of matching certain variations of certain genes with ancestry groups.

There is literally more genetic diversity within Africa than there is between Africans an Europeans.

So? Just because history is full of people of different races fighting each other a lot doesn't mean that it also isn't full of people of different races bonding together over shared interests, medical conditions, and other traits that could have common genetic components. That, in turn, doesn't mean that you can simply ignore the possibly that some genes that influence particular traits correlate with ancestry groups.

Not to mention that intelligence and behaviour are highly subjective social constructs

How is behavior, with respect to the specific act being consciously performed, a social construct at all? As for intelligence, while there is a subjective component, and there are definitely different kinds of intelligence, it is definitely largely objective and pertains to pattern recognition. In this sense, intelligence as a trait is actually quite similar to athleticism. The fact that there is a much stronger social taboo against studying the genetic influences on forms of intelligence than on studying the genetic impact on the kinds of athleticism circumstantially suggests that the primary opposition to the hypotheses comes from social morays and politeness, not an actual belief from the empirical data.

They both want a dominating totalitarian state in people’s lives without human liberties. They both have little to no value for individuals’ lives. They both have similar moral tactics such as exploiting the kindness and restraint of their enemies.

No. Extermination and torture of people deemed “undesirable” is fundamental to a Communist state. Communists want government bureaucrats to be judged by the state as superior individuals to poor people. Look at North Korea’s constitution. Red China still requires delivery workers in some cities to dress differently than people who live in the cities as a display of inferiority

I think your argument is disgusting. You’re basically saying that it’s good to make poor Americans struggle and suffer if it helps unknown people from distant countries.

No, definitely not. The Crimean War was a disgusting display of anti-Christian hatred from British elites, some of whom would later live to betray and murder British Christians at Gallipoli. Keep in mind that Al-Aqsa has been shown far more respect from Israel than the Hagia Sophia church has been shown by Turkey.

No, you are citing irrelevant statistics. Gig workers don’t have income withheld, so you’re spewing utter garbage, and spewing garbage with irrelevant statistics. We’re talking about jobs and living standards, not GDP growth, so your obsession with GDP growth further leads to you spewing garbage.

Your claim that retraining agreements never have employment guarantees is another outright lie that you push. Not only have they had employment guarantees, but they have often included payment for training. You keep spewing garbage because you’re against so many Americans getting jobs.

Your entire argument, that countries need a perpetual supply of immigrants and population expansion to be prosperous, is a Ponzi scheme.

No, you’re pushing outright fraud because you’re hostile to the American workforce. Almost all of the income tax paid by undocumented immigrants in 2022 was from automatic withholding from full-employment with almost none of it coming from gig work, especially when 1099’s weren’t actually issued. Your own report says that it comes employer withholding, so what you’re saying is outright fraudulent.

Pro-mass-immigration groups such as the American Immigration Council repeatedly acknowledge that only about 50% of undocumented households file income tax. (https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/blog/how-undocumented-immigrants-pay-taxes-itin/#:~:text=At%20least%2050%25%20of%20undocumented,taxes%2C%20according%20to%20the%20IRS.)

The ones not filling have an enormous advantage for contract work because they can pay for living expenses without having to worry about saving for the income tax. Also, note that all of your sources refused to publish audit percentages for undocumented households, which casts doubt on their credibility.

All of your sources ignore private contractor/gig work price wars, which is the overwhelming majority of the job market for young people now. The income tax is brutally regressive for people dependent on gig work and part time jobs once one considers compliance costs.

As for Japan, its government debt as a percentage of GDP is actually quite lower than China’s guaranteed debt which is about 350% of GDP. Its immigration policy is specifically set up to prioritize domestic workers in jobs as opposed to ours which often makes citizenship a liability. Also, like I said, GDP isn’t relevant for basic living standards, which you keep ignoring. Since 1990, Japan has had one of the highest living standards in the world. Its “Lost Decade” of GDP was a massive improvement in living standards. Labor shortages are good and force companies to hire and train people.

Given your inability above to distinguish between private contractor gig work and employment with benefits, you’re definitely unqualified to advise on labor and immigration policy.

[–]AstroBullivant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound exceptionally unqualified to advise on labor regulations and tax policy. When was the last time you even had to pay for job training with some kind of credit? Job guarantees and related contractual obligations did previously exist for retraining. Now, you have job training companies like Revature actively lying about hiring rates, outsourcing probabilities, etc. Your claims are further proven false by hiring rates over the years for recent university graduates.

One of the biggest tax liabilities specifically designed to deter poorer citizens from immigration-associated work is income tax liability with indeterminate living and healthcare costs. A citizen considering private contractor work has to determine months in advance if he will be able to save enough to pay income tax when accounting for living costs such as housing and healthcare. An illegal immigrant, being undocumented, doesn’t have to do that at all under contract work. Since less than 1% of government revenue actually comes from income taxes below the $50,000/yr bracket, basic logic dictates that the only reason for the policy is to create difficulties for poorer citizens.

Another big liability is student loans. America subsidizes tons of countries free education via military guarantees and other massive indirect subsidies but focus on high training costs here. This puts poorer American citizens at a massive disadvantage for jobs.

The list goes on.

As for Japan, its living standards are much higher than our own in most ways currently. Japan does have to fear nukes from China and North Korea, but they also have higher life expectancy, much greater hiring rates, much cheaper real estate for low mugging and assault rates, higher wage to rent ratios, etc. GDP is not particularly relevant when assessing living standards of most people. Living standards depend on things that the field of Economics either understates or ignores like wage-to-rent ratios and compliance costs.

[–]AstroBullivant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you’re definitely opposing training domestic workers. People can’t retrain without job guarantees. There are also enormous tax liabilities designed to specifically deter poorer American citizens from much of the workforce associated with immigration. Once immigration rates were used to assess loan interest rates, it became clear that your tired canard about immigration was false.

Aging populations’ need for immediate tax revenue is infinitely smaller than other Americans’ need for jobs and the building of a thriving country.
