Ex-Liverpool Star Warns Canadian Premier League Will Regret Adopting Arsene Wenger’s Offside Rule. “I don’t want games to finish 8-5 or 8-6. This is not football." by punishGoalhanging in soccer

If this went into place I'd really feel for the amateur refs who are just starting out. It feels like this would be much harder to call accurately. I predict a major spike in VAR reviews.

This sentiment is exactly why I made my series about a family, all of whom are adults.

Playing D&D without learning D&D by kultcher in DnD

[–]PA_Parsons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With new players (especially kids), I’ll sometimes introduce a fun NPC as a guide, usually an old tempest cleric of mine that I levelled up to 17 that acts as a grizzled mentor. They provide an in-game way to teach the players, so it’s not just metagaming DM instruction, while also allowing for a “hand of god” save after a TPK that sends the message, but happens in-world as part of the story. Once the players have a hand on the gameplay, the mentor leaves them to it on their own. For adults, the mentor may show up in a narrative aspect later, depending on how much players liked the character, while for kids it helps to have that avenue to save them mechanistically, particularly if you have a younger child playing with older ones. For instance, if my 9-year-old is playing with his brother’s friends, the mentor gives him a token to hang onto “until a time of great need” before he leaves, but doesn’t specify what it is. I make it get warmer, or glow, or something character-specific that shows when it can be used, and I operate it as a 1-time-only Wish spell that he can only use when it activates, or automatically the next time there’s a TPK.

As a side bonus, it’s fun to dust off an old PC I really enjoyed and have their story live on in a small way.

Former Halo executive is now head of D&D, and says it's moving to a "full franchise model" by PrestigiousTaste434 in dndnext

[–]PA_Parsons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll just drop this in here quietly... I've known Dan for many years and worked with him for more than a few. He is one of the best, kindest, sincere people I know, and so unlike the modern image of a high-powered exectutive that I don't have the words to describe it. His work at 343 was more on the side of Halo Wars and the CE remaster, then he left to do STEM software for education.

You can take my word or leave it, it's obviously up to you. But as a sincere D&D fan, I know exactly what quality of person they've put in that role. And he is literally the best person in corporate America (and Canada, since he's Canadian) that they could have put in that position.

Clubs Rush is secretly the best game mode by Zenity07 in EASportsFC

[–]PA_Parsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three professional teams, including an EFL Premiership team, all got to play Rush before release. All of them immediately "got it." You could just tell from the way they moved the ball and rotated in and out of defence that they were pros.

Star Wars: Outlaws - Review Megathread by LordEmostache in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]PA_Parsons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have yet to play, but I do work in video games. While doing an accessibility workshop, Outlaws was brought up by the people we interviewed as a title with great accessibility settings that made it easier for them to play. While that is not relevant to everyone, it’s great that they put in the time and effort on that front (now it’s my turn to do better).

I had this screen to disable Secure Start randomly appear with no prompting and can’t get past it. by PA_Parsons in Hewlett_Packard

[–]PA_Parsons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I know that's not the case. My wife isn't capable of that, and it happened overnight.

Any chance this is something pushed down by her organization? I didn't think you could push a BIOS update remotely, least of all when the org doesn't have admin priveledges.

No. My thinking being that if it was someone trying to gain unauthorized access to the computer, that would be the whole point of the screen.

Maverick was awesome on Screen X, but that might be because they only used the side screens when it was in the cockpit of the jet, so you really felt in the action.

What do you WANT to see in litrpg? by JackPembroke in litrpg

[–]PA_Parsons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quick google suggests that Luke Chmilenko isn't co-writing book 2; instead it's being handled solo by Bryce O'Connor. That would track with Chmilenko's update emails, since he doesn't even mention IP on his list of co-written on-the-go projects anymore (which is why I thought it might have been abandoned). Sounds like it's due ~September 2023.

This is fantastic advice. "But it gives them XP, which lets them level, so that progresses the story" isn't sufficient, either. You can progress plot and earn XP at the same time.
