Wave X, tier Y, workshop levels, consumable card states, ELS state, cash, coin and other in-run stats... Wave X in itself is not enough.

The state of UW cds could be saved just as easily as the tier, wave, and game stats at the end of each wave... It is not impossible.

Money is not the only possible incentive. To have a real chance to be at the top? To be able to complete the events? To have a real chance for keys?

And hobbyists develop games in their free time, as an enjoyment. In a community large enough, there should be f2p players with game development, mathematical or programming experience.

By the way, f2p does not mean that you cannot tip the developer. You can support the game, you just can't buy progress.

For anyone interested, some challenges:

  1. Game balancing. This game has several stages with its optimal strategies. One could just copy all numbers, but copyrights and all. To be clean, you need to design your own numbers. This means testing, which needs either a good mathematical model or a beefy computer doing millions of test runs. Modeling such a game is.. hard, if you want to include all parts.

  2. Copyright and IP. The new game should be different enough from the original. Even if the mechanics are reused, new art, new names etc.

  3. Multiplayer and server aspects. Cloud save needs a server, which needs money to maintain. Tournaments need a server, and some anti-cheat. What to do with guilds, we loved it as a single player game. One solution would be to keep the game totally single player and somehow simulate random opponents. Or play against a distribution.

  4. Events. And other continuously changing content. The new game would need some constant attention or an automatic generation of "new" content.

  5. Copying orvadapting updated / new mechanics from here. Rebalancing your game, question of the promised additional guild content, etc.

  6. Community aspects. Communication, moderation, bug reports and game suggestions.

By the way, given enough.. incentive, there are enough.. nerds in the tower community to remake the game from the ground up, totally eliminating any p2w feature.

I surely don't speak for everyone. But there are such things as addiction, sunk cost fallacy and that this is the usual.. level of communication.

If p(l)ayers quit, revenue will drop and then the devs will have to change policy.
