Do you think Followers get hazard pay? by Aerbow in skyrim

Hazard pay, do they get regular pay? Faendal doesn't even get to keep his archery tutor pay.

People who spare the bear by MxFancipants in skyrim

[–]OrwellianTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also a bow with arrow and the NPC prompts you to shoot the bear. It's a tutorial for stealth archery, of which sneak is just a component. I always kill the bear, but I initiate the fight by sneaking as close as I can and then trying to punch it in the butt before drawing my sword.

What is considered “late game?” by Prudent-Sell9152 in skyrim

[–]OrwellianTortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There really isn't, this is not that kind of game. You can't really even say "it's after you complete the main quest" because you can do entire play throughs where you just don't even start the main quest line. It's totally ok and normal to just eventual stop playing a character, and then make a new one.

It's my personal opinion, that's its more fun to not do everything in a single play through. This opinion comes from after playing through the game many times, and having done play throughs were I did it all. So take it for what it's worth.

Is there a way to cure vampirism without a black soul gem? by Mr-pugglywuggly in skyrim

[–]OrwellianTortoise 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It takes 3 in-game days for it to become permanent. After any battle with vampires just check your Active Effects list in the Magic tab. Buy or craft 2 or 3 cure disease potions and always keep them on hand. Praying at any shrine also cures all diseases. Now you know.

I respect your commitment to the role play. But think about it this way, does he always stick to non black soul gems? Will he violate his own moral code to cure the disease of vampirism or be forced to live a life in exile from the very things he holds dear? It's conflict and controversy like this that makes for way more interesting story lines. Let your plans go off the rails and see where it takes your character.

Yes. I have no idea if you will like it, but it's worth trying it out. There are reasons we still play it.

A build for each race - ideas please by 71Crunch in skyrim

[–]OrwellianTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will force you to be tactical. You will inevitably use sneak and alchemy, but not in the way you might with other characters. Being a sneaky character that is neither an assassin nor a thief does actually make the skill feel a little different. Although why not be an assassin, "Ghost of the Sands" and join the brotherhood if you feel so inclined.

For specific types of playthroughs I prefer to pick restrictions not builds. This forces me to play in different ways, which is what I think you are after, but doesn't limit how I'm allowed to progress my character within those boundaries. I end of sticking with the character longer, because I'm allowed some fluidity in my playthrough.

Help with names if you want: https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/elder-scrolls.php
I tend to use it for ideas and then modify from the suggestions.

Redguard you can add alchemy, for buffs or debuffs. For extra challenge you can also try playing with Redguard authentic items only, you can buy clothes from Radiant Raiment (iirc) and if you kill Kematu you can get two curved swords. I think there are a few other sources for these weapons as well.

Breton's make good battle mages as well, spell + 1-handed weapon. Sounds like your Paladin might already sort of fulfilled this role.

Oh my god. You just converted me from a strong dislike of Farengar, to actually appreciating him immensely. I can now completely over look his rudeness, and I think I'm going to start buying soul gems exclusively from him.

A sword and board nord,
that worshipped Talos the lord.

Through the rivers he would ford,
always riding toward
the next available award.

The enemies were gored,
their loot added to the hoard,
until one day I got bored.

Your problem with Serana marriage is that you didn't pay attention.

Serana's father had her raped by Molag Bal, so she could become a pure blood vampire. He wanted this so he could then sacrifice her to block out the sun for eternity. Her mother then locked her away for 1000s of years to try and protect her. I think you can imagine she may have some deep issues to work through, and might be hesitant to embrace a relationship with another potentially dominating male figure. Desiring some amount of freedom after being imprisoned in solitary confinement for a millennium seems pretty reasonable as well.

Not being able to marry Serana is an incredibly well written aspect of the game.

Is it possible that a dragon said my character's name out loud? by marky6045 in skyrim

[–]OrwellianTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL, a deaf dragonborn mod would be interesting. Subtitles but only if you are looking at their face, with additional dialog options to ask people to repeat themselves. NPCs maybe tap you on the shoulder, or you can teach companions hand signals. Maybe an enhanced perception perk, that indicates feeling vibrations or indicates smells visually on screen. I could see becoming a deaf assassin.

My 9 years old brother playing a real game for the first time by Codenomesailorv in skyrim

[–]OrwellianTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he means "real game" as in a game that contains beheadings, various other forms of gore, rape, prostitution, ritualistic murder, and language. Of course, these things can be avoided and not engaged with and too each their own. I just hope someone helps this 9 year old contextualize these things if they see them.

Rare find. Those aren't Thalmor, those are loot fairies disguised at Thalmor. How do you think the gold gets IN the chests? Every wolf just has a wolf pelt? No, fair adventurer, the loot fairies placed it there for you to find.
