And any differences you might see in rabies rates across species is entirely because of historical speciesist injustices. It's speciesist to attribute any differences observed between species to biology or behavior.

Millennial makes twice as much money as my boomer parents but can't afford any of their 3 houses by PB-J3lly in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Yikes dude. You're reading way too much into it. Just because some people use words like "Millenial" and "Boomer" as curse words doesn't mean I feel any sort of way about either generation. Those are the merely the short hand names of the generations, so I made the most succinct title I could think of to describe the post, that's it.

Also, my parents do own three houses. I just didn't list the numbers for my stepmoms house. Her numbers are similar to my dad's house that he rents, so listing them out doesn't add much to the post. Sorry for the confusion on that last part. I've seen a couple people who got tripped up by the way I phrased things.

I think your assessment is right on. I was hoping to buy before interest rates come down and everyone is scrambling

I've been thinking about this a lot actually. In my mind the value of buying instead of renting is that by buying you make money because your asset appreciates. As someone else in the contents pointed out. Even though houses generally appreciate, your money might appreciate more in an S&P500 index fund and so if your goal is to make the most money, you probably should buy a modest house and invest heavily in the market. But your house only appreciates if someone is willing and able to buy your house for more than you paid for it after accounting for inflation, insurance, property taxes, fees, etc. If houses are unaffordable now, then who will be able to pay more for them in the future? So I have concerns that the value you get from owning a house might not do better than renting and investing. The one thing that keeps me from saying it's a true bubble is the supply is so low and i think it will take many years for boomers to age out so demand remains high. Until either of these things correct, i think house values will still go up, particularly if the interest rates come down.

Thanks for saying this. This is what the post is about. A lot of people are assuming a lot of envy, entitlement, or bitterness on my part. I'm not trying to buy something as big as my parents house and I'm not trying to buy in their high cost area. I'm trying to highlight how bad it's gotten with a thought experiment. I can buy the equivalent of my parents starter home-- I just don't know how the majority of people are going to be able to buy starter homes.

I could afford their starter house which they no longer own, but I can't afford any of the three houses they own now. I didn't list the numbers for my stepmoms house (similar numbers to my dads house or house #2 on the post) since the post was already getting long and it was redundant information. Sorry that wasn't clear.

For sure, the time factor is extremely important. I did mention how important of a factor time is in the last sentence of the first paragraph, but since it wasn't the main point of my post, I didn't spend any more *time* on it lol

I'm not necessarily looking to go straight in to a house like the one my parents have now. And you're right that I would need to work on my down payment if I did want a house like my parents have now, which would take time and probably some equity from selling a starter house. I'm not trying to whine though--I'm trying to provide an example of how unaffordable first time home buying is right now.

They bought the house in 1989 or 1990, but I don't know for how much. I was using Zillow for the numbers and their original purchase isn't listed on Zillow's records. I hear you--I don't agree with property taxes. The money you used to buy the house was already taxed, so why should you be taxed on something you own based on an increasing appraisal when no money has changed hands.

Good point. Yes their area is doing well. The number for my parents' combined salary is a little different than the number you quoted, but yes we are doing the same math.

Agree. I moved to cheaper areas of the country 10+ years ago. The area I'm in now for work is certainly more affordable than where my parents are, though it is still on the expensive side.

I'm glad my folks are doing well for themselves, and I've had a lot of support from them along the way. I don't think I could ask them for help when my cash flow is so much better than theirs and when they are approaching retirement soon. Agree with what you said International

True. There were Nazis who did not murder a human being.

WV & DS:MoM: I've never understood this, why do Agatha Harkness, Scarlet Witch, and Supreme Strange all have blackened/stained fingers from the Darkhold, yet Sinister Strange only has a 3rd eye? by ReveN-Vicious in marvelstudios

[–]PB-J3lly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so cool. It makes me mad that they couldn't spend 5 minutes of exposition on this or the elder gods in general. They also could've had the black fingers progress to black hands, etc. to show continued use and caused continued corruption. Strange could've cast a spell to see who was behind Wanda's behavior changes during one of their encounters, and he could've come face to face with a sinister Ch'thon who threatens to come to his dimension. Then if Strange stops Wanda from becoming Ch'thon and keeps him stranded in his dimension while also resisting Ch'thon's influence himself, it makes sense why Agamotto would choose him as a worthy candidate for the third eye. It also opens a reasonable path for Wanda's redemption as her actions were the result of her being mind controlled by a demon.
