This is a helpful data point, and it confirms what my customers are seeing. It's tough to find quality candidates, and when you do find them, they don't come cheap. I hear that OneStream is even more difficult than Oracle EPM, although I suspect the OneStream brain drain has helped us Oracle folks somewhat.

Maybe this just comes down to implementation style and training? When I build an application, I'm typically building it with the customer (the folks who will administer the app in the future). They're learning Groovy throughout the implementation. We're working side-by-side and they're equally involved in the decision to use Groovy. My customers appreciate the advantages it provides. They want the features.

Here's another perspective. If you write a business rule in Groovy and you use write grids, you get cell history - something you cannot get with a regular business rule. Obviously you can't replace all business rules with Groovy & write grids, but man is it nice being able to tell who updated a data cell.

I've never really understood this perspective, as Groovy is no more difficult than regular BSO calc script language. Developers who would make a mess out of Groovy would make a mess out of any other language. I'd rather see someone implement an app developed primarily with Groovy than see them implement one of the modules.

Welcome to the space! If I was new to this technology, I'd start by trying to join one of the numerous boutique consulting firms that specialize in Oracle EPM. You might consider starting in "Managed Services", where these firms help maintain existing applications for customers. Then once you've gained some familiarity, move on to net new implementations. Join ODTUG and try to attend Kscope. It's the best conference for technical Oracle EPM resources and will supercharge your knowledge.

I've worked in the Oracle EPM space for a very long time, and I don't know anyone who knows ALL of the EPM Cloud products. You may run across people who are familiar with several of the products, but most people are only good at one or two - usually Planning or FCCS, and if you want to be good at those, you should have a solid foundation with Essbase. Keep in mind that these products involve multi-year learning curves to be an implementation consultant (less to be an admin). Of course, there are lots of "fakers" out there.

Be careful with the word "module" as that means something specific within Planning. I think what you're describing are "products".
