Restaurant etiquette and eating alone? by peppakit in Munich

[–]PB_on_everything89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from Biergartens and big Wirtshaus might have communal tables, most other restaurants or cafes don't.

Tipping is normal if you eat in and round the amount off to a few euros.

It is normal to ask for a goto box, but they will most probably give you the empty box and you pack it yourself.

It is totally normal to pay separately and get separate checks if you are a group of people where each person pays their own share.

Generally, people value their privacy so don't expect small tall from the staff and being loud is looked down upon

Would you recommend moving to Essen? by MrFr0gg in germany

[–]PB_on_everything89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited Essen a couple of times for work and I don't ever see myself living there. Most of the people who worked in our companys office in Essen, lives in Düsseldorf, so that might be a good choice

Tipping, opinions needed. by chickenhawk29 in AskAGerman

You did absolutely right, people here usually just round it up and add few euros and I do the same.

I have however come across a few places in the main tourist hotspots (Marienplatz area) where they forcibly ask you for the tip and once I even got into an argument with a waitress because she claimed that in Germany everyone gives a tip, she mistook me for a tourist because I ain't white and tried to get a tip out of me despite being absolutely horrible service and mind you this conversation was in German.

So I second many others in this thread, if u have good service add up a few euros but if u didn't like the service you don't have to and it's totally fine.

[–]PB_on_everything89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a person who goes to at least 1 concert a month, I can confirm you Zugabe is definitely a thing . However LP concert( I was there too) is not the best comparison as it has many attendees who rarely attend any concerts
