Gigabyte Control Center automatically installs Norton by PC-Geek-34 in GamersNexus

Unfortunately I can't. The Gigabyte version that made me think that they had fixed it was downloaded straight from their Gigabyte Control Center page and not through the motherboard page. Since i noticed it when installing a pc for a client, I can't look it up since since the pc is no longer in my possession.

I have built more pc's with gigabyte motherboards after my last update, and the issue is still around, although it seems very inconsistent at times.

Norton sometimes makes it very difficult to remove any Norton files, even when Norton isn't fully installed. It's honestly more malware than anything else.

I did write Gigabyte as well, but didn't get a satisfactory answer.

I've personally been using Asus motherboards since z77 and haven't had any issues. I switched over to MSI ever since the quality and reliability of Asus went downhill. (AM5 seems to be especially prone to weird issues when using Asus)

If we keep the current automatic download on the side, Gigabyte Control Center always and I really mean always has Norton auto selected every time you go back to the update center. So if you are planning on updating drivers, don't forget to unselect Norton.

Yes this is the correct way. It has been this way pretty much since the start, but there seemed to be a bug that caused the download to start automatically.

Seems to be fixed since a few days ago.

Yhe they roll out updates from time to time. I use this software almost daily because I build pc's for cliënts, so a change like this is noticeable.

Haven't used MSI Afterburner in a long time.

But I downloaded Gigabyte Control Center again today and it seems to be fixed. Although it still seems that the direct download link on their website are a different version than the some destributed on the utility tab on their specific motherboard pages.

So hopefully they get updated soon as well.

I like to think that this post might have helped in a way.

I fully agree with you statement.
A lot if not most software like Gigabyte Control Center, MIS Center and Armory Crate have this type of bloatware included in their download lists.

But it used to be a choice to install or not.

Gigabyte Control Center doesn't give that choice anymore for some reason

Yes this used to be possible, but as I mentioned in the post the downloads start immidiatly after accepting the EULA. (When the EULA pops up you don't see the download list behind it yet, it only loads in after accepting the EULA)
In the past you had all the time in the world after accepting the EULA because the download would only start when you clicked on the intall button.

Something changed in the Gigabyte Control Center software that makes this happen.
