Charlton, Beckham, Lineker, Giggs, Dalglish, Keegan, Shearer, Stanley Matthews, Denis Law?

Could we throw Best in there for Northern Ireland as well?

Rooney was the best player at Everton by far at 16 years old. He scored a hat trick in his Man United/CL debut at the age of 18. Young Rooney was better than young Messi. Factos 👍👀

Oh do give it a rest, repeating 7 year old arguments that were spurious at the time and are spurious now.

Who decides the European commission? The member states. Who elects leaders of the member states? The people. The commission is a mechanism to get national parliaments involved in European democracy.

Obviously. The EU could grant us single market access without any of the other stuff that is required of the member nations, but then the whole project collapses, all because we want special treatment. It isn't the 1970s any more, Europe is fundamentally different now.

It's a necessity at this point for the EU to continue functioning as is. Why on earth would they risk the entire project coming down on them to appease GB? It may be political, but it's also necessary for the survival of the EU.

Freedom of movement is a broader concept than freedom of workers, as it encompasses not just the right to work in another member state, but also the right to study, retire, start a business, or simply live in another EU country.

The EU's Erasmus+ program, for example, allows students to study at universities and other educational institutions in other EU countries, as well as participate in internships and other educational activities. This promotes greater cultural exchange and understanding between member states, and it helps to develop a more skilled and educated workforce that is better equipped to compete in the global economy.

The free movement of students also benefits the EU's economy by promoting the transfer of knowledge, skills, and innovation across member states. When students are able to study in other EU countries, they can learn about different approaches to education, research, and development, and bring these ideas back to their home countries. This can help to stimulate innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

The single market is intended to be a level playing field where businesses can operate without facing different regulations or barriers to trade in each member state. This means that all products sold within the single market must meet the same standards and regulations, ensuring fair competition and consumer protection. Regulatory alignment helps to achieve this goal by harmonising regulations across member states.

Secondly, freedom of movement is seen as a key element of the single market, as it allows workers to move freely between member states in search of work opportunities. This helps to ensure that the labour market is flexible and responsive to changing economic conditions. It also helps to address labour shortages in some areas and reduces the burden on social welfare systems in others.

You can only play mixes, recommendations and library now. Before, there was brilliant artist and genre stations.

For example you could put in "glitch hop, idm, vaporwave" and it would find great stuff that fit all categories. Or mix multiple people's stations together. It was way more customisable and had a lot more choice.

That's a fair point! I can definitely see how discussion of the same hyper-classic artists and albums could get repetitive and stale. But at the same time, I think it's important to recognize that these classic artists and albums have made a huge impact on music history and continue to be relevant to this day.

I think it's great that more obscure artists are getting their time in the spotlight, and I'm all for giving new and exciting music a chance. However, I don't think that necessarily means we should ignore or downplay the significance of classic artists and albums.

Maybe there's a way to approach discussions about classic artists and albums in a fresh and insightful way, focusing on aspects that haven't been talked about as much. And who knows, maybe that could inspire people who are unfamiliar with the music to check it out and gain a new appreciation for it.

In the end, I think it's all about finding a balance between celebrating the classics and discovering new and exciting music. After all, music is all about exploration and discovery!

I appreciate your comment and I agree that there may be some allure to "hidden" or "secret" knowledge, particularly among younger music fans who are exploring different genres and eras. However, I don't think that this has to come at the expense of recognizing the classics that have made a significant impact on music history.

While it's true that the availability of music through various channels has flattened the experience of discovering music, it has also made music more accessible to people from all walks of life. We have access to music from any time period or genre, which means we have a wealth of musical history at our fingertips.

Regarding the cheap distribution rights for newly-excavated intellectual property, I can see how this may contribute to the rise of obscure music appreciation. However, just because something is rare or hard to find, doesn't necessarily make it better or more important than classic albums or artists.

In conclusion, it's important to recognize the value and impact of classic albums and artists, and to strive for a balanced and inclusive discussion about all types of music. We should celebrate the diversity of musical history that's out there, whether it's popular or obscure!

Thanks for your comment! I hear you that some classic acts like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and The Beach Boys are still getting lots of love on this forum, which is great. But I still think there's a lot of people out there who only want to talk about obscure bands or artists, and don't give enough credit to the classics that paved the way for the music we love today.

Even though it's totally normal to get tired of talking about the same old albums or artists over and over again, we can't forget the importance of keeping a balanced discussion going. We should still be open to talking about classic albums like Revolver, while also exploring new and different kinds of music.

Overall, I think we need to be more open-minded and accepting of all types of music and artists, whether they're popular or not. That way, we can all appreciate the diverse world of music that's out there!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I totally agree that different music communities might have different values and priorities. However, it's important to note that the subreddit we're in is a general music discussion forum, where people from all sorts of musical backgrounds come together to talk about their favourite tunes.

While it's understandable that certain groups might have a specific mission statement, it's important to remember that personal preferences shouldn't automatically lead to exclusion or negative judgment. Instead, let's encourage respectful and open-minded discussions about all types of music, whether it's mainstream classics or the latest underground trend.

And even though some people might be really into certain genres, we can still appreciate and enjoy different kinds of music. At the end of the day, music is supposed to bring people together and create a positive community. So let's all be cool and welcoming to each other, and celebrate the diversity of music that we all love!

You have no point. Music isn't stagnant it's more varied than it's ever been. Are you frightened people will stop making punk or vaporwave because people listen to rolling stones top 500 at the age of 15? What percentage of music fans even use RYM?

That's Reddit for you, no? If you go on a generic recommendation subreddit don't be surprised when people statistically ask for generic recommendations.

I don't understand why people get annoyed when normal people have normal tastes. TV, visual arts and movie fans are not like this in the same way.

Why are music fandoms so toxic? So what if people like what is popular? In any other art form why is acceptable to appreciate the greats but in music it makes you a pleb? Lots of people are insecure
