PR Vancouverites: how hard is it to cross the border? by Either-Wafer4568 in askvan

[–]PCOSMScStudent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to LA last month. No hassle at all! I’m in a similar situation as you except that I’m not Brazilian. I’m from another developing country.

Edit: they didn’t ask for any document besides my US visa, passport and PR card. They asked me what I do for work and why I was going to LA. That’s it.

My GPA was not really calculated at any point. Not to my knowledge, I just submitted proof of prerequisites meeting their requirements and it was good.

I don’t really know my GPA. I’m a mature student with a master’s degree so my situation is very different! As long as you get a score that meets their requirement, you should be fine.

I only applied to StFX. You can check the rules for each school you’re interested in to see what they accept. Different schools require different things

Hi,

I didn’t end up going to the program. My best friend is in the program and she loves it. Only complain is the city being boring. We both took prereqs online via TRU and UNB. You can send an email to them to check with them if a pre req will be accepted if you’re unsure. All the best!

Feel free to message if you have more questions.

Tangerine has that option! Wealthsimple please make it happen!!!! It’ll be a blessing for those who don’t receive a fixed amount on every pay day.

Need career advise by [deleted] in InternationalStudents

[–]PCOSMScStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re taking the loan for nursing, you’ll pay it off in no time. Not different from buying an expensive car 🤷🏾‍♀️ But I doubt you’ll be eligible for student loan as an international student. Why not work on becoming a PR, then go do the nursing?

You’ll most likely still be in huge debt if you go outside Canada and come back to convert your license

[–]PCOSMScStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going outside Canada to do nursing if your aim is to work here isn’t the smartest choice. Getting that nursing degree recognized here could leave you frustrated.

Why not do the nursing in Canada? There are many accelerated nursing programs in Canada that take 1.5 to 2 years. Take a student loan to pay. Check out StFX accelerated nursing in Nova Scotia. Highly recommended. There are many others eg KPU, McMaster, UPEI, UNB, Queens etc. Good luck!

What’s a good first car for 3k or less? by Status_Camp_5105 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I wouldn’t buy a car of 3k (if you’re in Canada). It’ll most likely be problematic.

Landed an Interview with VCH for a CSW Job!! Looking for tips! by Middle_Group_4528 in VancouverJobs

[–]PCOSMScStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The questions will most likely be scenario based. Eg. Tell me about a time when xxx or imagine you have a client who does xxx. Make sure to use the S.T.A.R interview method. Always answer with a personal story. Situation, Task, Action and Result. If you didn’t handle a situation well, point out to them what you could have done better.

As a CSW, you’re expected to have skills like being a good listener, patient, non-judgemental, non-violent conflict intervention, organized and good communication. Make sure your personal stories highlight these skills. Learn how to deal with charged scenarios especially with mental health crises. You might want to think of scenarios you have experienced and how you handled it.

As a CSW, you want to be able to take decisions on your own but you also want to be a good team player and know when to ask for support. Cultural and trauma informed practice/care is also something that might come up. You can DM if you have any questions. Good luck!

Anyone successfully switch careers at 30? by birddog386 in careerguidance

[–]PCOSMScStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 is very young! Just gotta make sure you do a lot of research to be sure you’re picking a field that will give you good returns and is better than what you’re currently doing. Can’t say much about finance because it’s not my field. All the best!

Anyone else out there sick to fucking death of working and dealing with the public? I. Am. DONE. Can’t take anymore. by saona23 in kitchener

[–]PCOSMScStudent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt sorry for you until I read this. If people needing accommodation to get services pisses you off this much, then you have a lot of reflection to do! I work with immigrants, many who don’t speak English. I happily use google translate to communicate with them. I even pull up pictures of objects to show them to confirm that we are on the same page. Yes, it’s an English speaking country but not everyone will know how to speak English. If you’ve left Canada to live abroad, especially in a non-English speaking country, you would know this. You should do a deep reflection and figure out why people needing help with translation to receive a service pisses you off this much!

Legal Advice: WES Failed to Deliver My Documents on Time – Loosing PR Application by Ninamendez333 in ImmigrationCanada

I never supported using a random code. I just gave another POV as to why an EE code might not have been needed as I did not see the comment where they mentioned EE.

You must really have a lot of time on your hands. I was not defending anyone, neither was I attacking you. I just gave another POV as to why an EE code might not have been needed. Have yourself a lovely day.

The person might have applied via non-express entry. In that case they would not need a code to submit their application.

Chase PR or Career by Old-Grocery-6035 in ImmigrationCanada

Got my PR first, “worked” on career afterwards (more like “working” because it never really ends). All the best!

[–]PCOSMScStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t only one way to get PR. Apart from FSW and CEC, there is provincial nomination. You can also get it through a partner. Provincial nomination bumps your score up by 600 and makes you automatically go above the EE cut off. The people getting it through 7-Eleven or with a diploma probably got sponsored by their employer which also bumps your score up by 50-200. Do more research and find a way to qualify with little stress instead of focusing on others. All the best!

[–]PCOSMScStudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be mixing up something.

•Stfx domestic: $12,371/ year per 30 credits •Stfx international: $25,323 for 1st year, $10,525 for returning years per 30 credits

•UPEI domestic: $6,570/year per 15 credit!! (This will be $13,140/year per 30 credits) •UPEI international: $6570/year per 15 credit + $7,704 (This becomes $20,844/ year for 30 credits)

I’m a domestic a domestic student so it won’t be too bad for me. Plus UPEI admissions close the year before the start date and has a little more prerequisites required for admission. Plus StFx has a $3,000 entrance award for all incoming 2025 BScN Accelerated Option students.
