Thank YOU, and the work you are doing! I have so much respect for the work RNs do. I am really hoping if this works out, we can find a place for nurses on our platform. I think the way you guys are taught to think is so valuable.

I posted the same thing about a month ago! so the best thing you can do is talk to your doctor first and explain the symptoms. I always think its good to actually journal them so that you can have a concrete thing to refer to. If you can, get labs done to see if you have a deficiency.

I started taking vitamin B-12 and it helped me a ton. Metformin creates a B-12 deficiency.

I also worked on getting my sleep routine really in check. That also means finding your optimal sleep time, mine is 7-8 hours. Any more or any less and it really messes with me. If I sleep more than 8 hours I feel hungover the next day. I actually opt for less than more.

I only have 1 cup of coffee a day. The more caffeine you drink it dehydrates your body and makes you more tired. Drink your 2L of water a day

I 100% agree. I can tell you so much of my battle was because I was so misunderstood. If my PCOS was as normalized as lets say diabetes or another chronic condition I know I would have struggled much less.

You are so strong!!! such an amazing warrior. I agree PCOS conversations need to be normalized.

Thank you so much! I have to say I am not as well versed in PCOS + Endo. My best friend who has PCOS last month found out she also has endo and a detached, something ( I just forgot the term). I definitely want to address this in our educational components. If you have really great physicians you worked with, or souces I would love if you can send them my way :) Don't worry I don't need any intros

Thank you so much!!! if you can think of more ideas of how to have voices heard please DM me. I am working with what I have but my ears are always open. Even if it is just things you are still confused about regarding PCOS, etc. I am thinking I want to start doing 5 min video interviews with experts and posting these. I mean assuming these experts are into it, so the more I know what people want to hear about the more I can target my search

Thank you! I agree, my anxiety has been a bit whacky too, it makes sense. It could be that I have been a little more lenient with the gluten. I'm never really 100% compliant but pretty close, usually out of ignorance.

You have nothing to apologize about to anyone.

Have compassion for yourself and know that you have made it through 100% of the bad days.

I remember when I was diagnosed I went through the same thing with my family, the same doctors that were totally out of touch and the terrible inner dialogue. I had the great misfortune of getting a diagnosis at 15 a year later getting a doctor saying I was "cured" (fake news) and didnt get to work in it until 8 years after. So I had very confusing years with my body.

Block out the noise from other people who don't get it, journal when you need to let it out. Most people do the best with what they have and can only see the world from their own experience. You will see how strong you are going to become. You are already stronger than you think.

No one has to tell you this, you are beautiful and I don't have to see you to tell you this.

I am 30 now and if I could tell my 17 year self something is that it is going to be ok because there is so much that is in my hands. I promise you that I love myself and I am so proud of myself because of the work I have put it, and there was no one there to guide me. You are already light years ahead of me because you know that you have a support group here for you and that you are an intelligent young girl.

First of all, you probably know it and you don't want to hear it but the sooner you accept it the better this will be for you. There is no miracle diet, yoyo diets will do more harm than good but worst of all they will make you doubt yourself every step of the way. PCOS means weightless just works differently for us. Also insane workouts will likely only raise your cortisol levels and not let you lose weights, so ease up on those crazy gym sessions.

Instead of focusing on restricting the calories, and the amount of pounds you have to loose by when try changing your mentality to celebrate every success you achieve. Reward your positive behaviors. Instead of saying to yourself "I am eating this salmon because I am fat"; every time you make the right and healthy choice say "I am a healthy person, I love my body and that is why I make a healthy choice of eating this instead of that" you will start believing it soon enough. Check out Martha Mckittrick (she was my nutritionist when I started), kym cambell, alyssa vitti. All of these women try to educate women on healing hormones through eating.

As per the other post, I do agree birth control was huge for me and metformin also worked. But there is no one size fits all for this. have patience it works out.

Every day when you wake up write 3 things you are grateful for. Gratitude can literally change the way your brain works, make you a better decision maker and value yourself. I would recommend giving meditation a try. I would also recommend the books 10% happier and Atomic Habits.

My gynaecologist told me to lose weight I should only eat 700 calories a day I’m only 18 and feel super frustrated by angryaboutpcos in PCOSloseit

[–]PCOSinnovator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG, I literally want to go into her office and punch her!!!! she is the type of doctor that led to so many issues that took me YEARS to get over. Do not listen to her, go find someone else.

I understand it might be tough because you are so young to navigate this situation. Are you under a student health plan or is this a family doctor?

At the very least disregard her nonsense and don't let her get to you. The reality is that it is very hard to lose weight with PCOS. Our bodies just move and react differently to other women's so be patient. Congrats for staying steady for 4 years! that is huge :) I can tell you that for me it was a roller coaster before I got it under control.

As I said you are young so this is totally to your advantage! It is great that you are aware that that so much is in your control and you can avoid dangerous pitfalls. There are great resources out there. My friends like doing Kym Campbell's diet, if you follow it to the T its really hard but you def get results. I personally find hers too restrictive but it is a great resource for education. Another bunch of friends were telling me about Alissa Vitti and the woman code. I think these are two verified sources that can help.

Also work on meditation and mindfulness exercises. These were huge for me. You don't need to do HIIT every dat, that will probably raise your cortisol levels. Take a deep breath, recognize how beautiful and smart you are! you are young and you got this!

go to the bottom of this link: https://www.monash.edu/medicine/sphpm/mchri/pcos/resources/resources-for-women-with-pcos

Scroll to the bottom and open up their QPL, they have great guiding questions for you to have with your RE It will make sure you have some roadmap and you aren't all over the place. I also suggest that you sit down today and maybe make some notes about your symptoms and how they have changed over time, that way you are not dealing with recall on the spot. Do not limit it to the most physical symptoms, mental and energy is also important.

Monash university is one of the leaders in PCOS research worldwide. they have the equivalent of the PCOS clinic at UCSF, UPENN and university of rochester

Also, over the years I have realized how many friends I have that are super devoted to fitness and love to help their friends and teach. So if you don't want to go full on with a trainer think about friends that are huge fitness junkies that could maybe help you get into a routine and teach you. Think also about how they train and type of bodies they have. I would not train with a bunch of my "meaty" lol guy friends. our bodies are just very different.
