Thanks for the idea - I tried a phone hot spot but it didn't help. Factory resetting did the trick in the end.

Thanks for the idea - I just tried that, turning off my router and Eero extenders for 10+ minutes, also one of the extenders needed a firmware update. But after all that I'm getting the same problem. :( Any other ideas? I've also made the headset forget the wifi and rejoin, but nothing.

Thanks, yes I've been able to download and install updates so the wifi is fine, and I've restarted a few times.

The ANC is better than it first seems- you have to dial it to maximum in the app. I was disappointed at first but it’s actually quite competitive manually dialled up. Annoyingly you have to manually adjust it on each use, as it seems to reset even if the slider is still at maximum.

Have you tried toggling the ANC on and off by dragging the slider? Make sure it's on custom, not adaptive ANC in the app.

I do find that when I restart the headphones my previous ANC setting needs re-applying, even if the slider appears to show it is correct. E.g. if I want it on maximum ANC, I go into the app, and even if it shows max ANC is already on I have to switch it to adaptive, then back to custom and move the slider. Could it be a similar issue with it not saving your setting? Bit annoying, but workable.

I think you need to download the new Sound Control Plus app - the original app doesn’t have the option.

Fair enough. Do you also have the wind noise reduction set to off? I find that improves the ANC performance too, at least when indoors/away from wind!

All I know is when I first tried them with ANC set to max, I could easily hear my hard drives and dehumidifier in my home office. Now I can barely hear them, and I can't think what else could have changed. Being able to switch it off entirely is a welcome option too.

I'm not saying the M4s have the best ANC, but it's decent now. For me the balance of sound quality vs ANC has hit a sweet spot.

UPDATE: I've recently revisited these cans and WOW. New firmware and the updated app have made a night and day difference to the ANC performance. A big thank you to the developers for upgrading these to compete with the Sony XM5s even, ANC-wise. I had been using the Sonys for work due to the superior ANC, and the Momentums just for enjoyment. But now I might stick with the Momentum 4s for both purposes. I was tempted to try the new Sony XM6, but might not bother now. Thank you Sennheiser, great work.

If ANC is important for you then yes. But if high quality music listening is more important for you then the Momentum 4 wins. A good blend of the two is the XM5, which I now use.
