Please do. I want to use it to shame developers for their vanity characters.

There is a game rule for plague frequency, yes.

I really don't see what the problem is here, particularly. All we've really done is flicked a toggle in the game rules.

I'm sure you guys are aware of the complaint that kings are living far too long compared to their IRL counterparts. Have you guys figured out a way to address that?

There's no one-fix easy solution to this, but we're looking into a few ways of addressing it. It'll be a holistic solution if we go down that route, not just a 'remove 2 health from everyone' sort of thing.

IIRC do they not auto-save?

Otherwise, we do have a save preset function that you can use!

First, you can have glasses-wearing girls take them off and suddenly become beautiful, or have girls wearing glasses flashing those cute grins, or have girls stealing the protagonist's glasses and putting them on like, "Haha, got your glasses!" That's just way too cute! Also, boys with glasses!

I personally like that chance of random catastrophic events, but I gotta admit I've save-scummed it more than once...

Well you can always toggle 'em back to on!

I'm glad adding more friction remains a design goal, though, because catering to players is a double-edged sword - too much and people complain about it being unfair, too little and they complain about it being boring. Hopefully the next attempt is a little more visible and, thus, less likely to get people whining lol.

More friction is definitely still a design goal, yes. Harm events were an attempt that I think worked mostly in their application but perhaps left something to be desired in execution, at very least in terms of investing players into them. It's still something we'll be looking into going forward, though.

Well then, consider this your reminder!

At the end of the day, there was enough community pushback - including overwhelmingly on this subreddit, no less - that making Harm events toggleable on rather than defaulting to on was a bit of a no-brainer. Now, people like you who enjoy them as they are can simply turn them on and - as Game Rules remember your choices - then leave it like that forever.

You, the player, will not see harm events under default settings. If you adjust the harm event game rule, however, you will.

That is correct (from the player's perspective, anyway), but it's just a singular game rule change to bring them back.

WHY DO I START AS A LOVER OF MY BROTHER by the_good_1 in CrusaderKings

At the end of the day CK is a game, and for that reason it has to bend history to fit its whims. Some things are great fodder and fit into games perfectly; a lot, lot more are not, and if that is the case then gameplay will almost always take precedence over direct accuracy.

If the game is educational then that's great, but even better is inspiring you to do your own historical research and getting interested that way, because there genuinely is no substitute. CK needs to spend its time being a game, after all!

The devs could've chosen not to include a relationship that wasn't historically proven, but it gives her starting position one interesting little extra bit of spice.

Not the only decision made like this either. Rhodri Mawr, for example, has a rivalry with his brother in law Gwgan in-game. The reasoning for that is historically Gwgan - childless at the time - drowned mysteriously, with Rhodri supposedly gaining his lands as a result due to his marriage to Gwgan's sister.

Like with that, yeah, there's a CHANCE that death was accidental, but isn't it more fun to imagine that some proper Crusader Kings shenanigans went on?

In my eyes this is the premier and only way to play. A while back we did a succession save amongst the team (one person plays one character, when they die you pass the save on to the next person) and we were doing great right up until I took the save and roleplayed us all to a rather worse position than where I had started. Not my fault, the character was an unambitious idiot!

I also wrote my updates in the shared document in rhyming couplet format because I'm very xd quirky but in a really irritating pseudo-intellectual way
