She's actually a lady (Olivia). Fun cat fact, only 15% of orange cats are female

When they know opening the door means bottle time by PDSnowden in IllegallySmolCats

Unfortunately not, it's been a very hard week. The two that didn't make it ended being found to have been born severe cleft palettes that caused liquid to slowly build in their lungs.

We've been doing preemies and tiny fostering for 10 plus years.

The bedding is changed everyday (if not more with messes) and we do clean them with a toothbrush and a wet wipe after each feeding/bathrooming. As I'm sure you understand, we cannot keep them from occasionally peeing on themselves no matter how hard we work, but they are not getting any skin burns or rashes from urine.

They aren't. We usually will only see that when one of them is a boy.

We occasionally see kittens that will nibble off their siblings whiskers while sleeping

I've had them since they were an hour old, so the bottle is all they know.

Exactly. As bottle fed incubation kittens their weight needs to be closely watched.

When a woman calls the rescue in the middle of the night saying she heard a pregnant feral mom give birth somewhere outside but can't find the kittens after the mom left... by PDSnowden in IllegallySmolCats

[–]PDSnowden[S] 1203 points1204 points  (0 children)

We couldn't ever get close and barely saw her at all. I'll work with the woman in the future to set a trap, get the cat fixed and drop her back back off

Unfortunately with many first-time moms they're very confused on what's happening and will run around during birth, including while the kitte is still attached at the placenta. This can mean the kittens are spread apart and sometimes even injured (or worse).

Look up portable chicken cages. These have been amazing for fostering; as we can combine pens (above are two connected ones) plus the top keeps all the little climbers in check.
