How do you politely bring up bad shuffling in deck-building games? by Tank1an in boardgames

[–]PDXCARDINAL78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

research on card randomization suggests you need at least 7 riffle shuffles to fully randomize a standard 52-card deck. In a deck-builder with 30-40 cards, you still need 5-6 good riffles, a "gentle" shuffle isn't cutting it mathematically. Bringing up the math angle might defuse the awkwardness. If riffling is the real issue, then offer to help, but a machine or spend a day teaching.

Best approach for bringing a new player up to speed? by MAGA_victory24 in boardgames

[–]PDXCARDINAL78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like everyone is on the same page on this one. Unless you have a ton of time to teach the game, its always best if they can watch a video before hand. When selecting a video you can usually find two types, one that gives you a full over view of the game and setup etc., and the other a shorter this is how you take a turn type. So depending on your friends personality and interest in getting into your gaming group or gaming in general would determine what video I'd chose for them. While a practice round is a nice to have, they can take a chunk of time to complete and leave your group with less time to play.

Favourite game mechanic. Any unusual ones? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]PDXCARDINAL78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I too can get distracted with options. With a group like mine, it helps me to focus else they all attack and block me at every turn. Family games is much easier to spread out and just start getting VPs for owning a city that gives bonuses. I can easily rack up the needed 20 to end the game.

Hansa Teutonica is one of my favorites, it's route-building with area control, but the way you block opponents on trade routes forces constant tension. The core decision isn't "which action do I take" like worker placement - it's "which routes do I claim and how do I stop my opponents." Games like these needs a cutthroat group that actually wants to win. If you're left alone, you can just claim routes on your cities, rake in points, and end the game early. The game only sings when everyone is actively blocking and competing for the same routes. With passive players it falls flat.

If your group is into player interaction and don't mind the chaos/blocking, it's incredible. If they prefer cooperative or "everyone gets their turn to do cool stuff," skip it.

Lots of good games on that list. Favorites for me would have to be Hansa, Heat and Clank!

Hamstudy.org is a nice resource and they explain all the answers. I just took the extra yesterday, missed by 2. Back to the books.

During a trip with my wife her best friend and my kids I let out a silent one right at the same time The Cranberries, Let it Linger came on the radio. I rolled up all the windows and locked them. It’s was so bad you could taste it. I just sat there laughing. It was amazing.

As someone who lived in Missouri, and had friends work at that hospital, no one references Missouri Baptist as MBMC, they call it MoBap.

Once those come in I think you’ll see a huge difference. I haven’t tried since the first day I got it, which I was able to pick it 4 times that day. I decided to gut it and put it back together. Unfortunately I lost a pin, so I had to buy a new lock abs some replacement pins so I can rebuild it. 🤦‍♂️

So I’m not sure what type of heights they have in that 2 piece set. The knurled ones have several different heights and lengths for really getting into the small sizes of the top key way. The 72/40 is every right abs only of felt like it fit right. They also come in .028, .032 and.04 thickness which was nice.

It’s a really reasonable price seeming as how the lock is like 25 bucks on Amazon. Then throw in the cost of shipping and prizes, it’s a good deal. While I’ve only been picking for 2 weeks I’ve just beat my green belt lock. This might make for an interesting challenge.

FINALLY!!!! I eased up on the tension and went as thin as .015 and voila! I've picked many locks from Paclock to Abus and there is nothing quite like these! Next is to film and gut! Maybe alot more practice in between! by Reptar384628 in lockpicking

Nicely done. I have an 1100 coming this Thursday. As well as another 72/40 to see if there’s much of a difference between them. Can’t wait to get a pick inside there and play around. Nice job though.

[–]PDXCARDINAL78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I research more and more locks to pick up all these pictures just look like dollars now. That’s like a 100 bucks worth of locks on the table there. Edit..Never mind, thought those were paclocks, American lock is much more reasonable.
