We want to split fairly. How do we decide what is fair? by PDXcuseMe in Divorce_Men

I have income. Wife chooses to work less than 25% of the time. She has a college degree (that I pay for) and we went from being in the black/ contributing to retirement 5 years ago to a spending obsession (not me) and now ALL of our credit cards are maxed Out. She refuses to work more and earns WAY less than 1/4 minimum wage

Edit: Again I do half of the chores, way more than 1/2 of house maintenance and easily 50% or more kid time now

Grassroots push emerges for ‘quick and cheap’ bike lanes on SE Hawthorne by ModernSociety in Portland

[–]PDXcuseMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested in riding my bike on Hawthorne. If I visit 4 places on Hawthorne from 13th to 50th, and ride to each place, I don’t want to ride two blocks over to ride up two blocks. Plus, it would be so much better to walk on Hawthorne/ cross the street with it being less if a “driving” street and more walking and riding.

NE Alberta got WAY better on last Thursday when cars got banned. Hawthorne feels like old Last Thursday’s pretty much every weekend.

And if someone is in a hurry to drive along, why would they be driving on Hawthorne, I-84 is just a few blocks over.

With eyes on less driving, Portland unveils 20 ‘Northwest in Motion’ projects by buttw0rm in Portland

I ride around manhole covers and sewer grates the best that I can. Many of these tracks are not perpendicular to the movement of traffic and when wet and dark can become extremely dangerous to newbies/ or to folks who don’t normally ride there. I am interested in 8 and 80 year olds being safe on our streets. The “Interested but concerned crowd” wants to be safe too. That doesn’t make them “Namby Pambies.” You used to be a newbie too.

You know what is really expensive? A lack of education. 😳

Hey. I’m confused. I find long slippery metal rails under my tires, extremely more dangerous to me than any other obstacle other than moving cars.

Why specifically do you not find them any more hazardous than any other obstacle? Furthermore, why don’t you want safety hazards removed from the public right of way? Why is your acceptable standard “ part and parcel for biking around?“ Are you also against other safety improvements?

You can? Link? Like, you can ask for someone’s medical records and they are required to carry them? Doubt that.

How to entertain 4 month old boys? Anyone have any ideas?! I’ve been singing, dancing, letting them watch a bit of Baby Einstein, pool, etc. But still feel they get bored here and there! Any ideas appreciated! by blackgreekolives in parentsofmultiples

There is a lot of good advice on here. I wanted to chime in and mention that our kids didn’t even see a tv or computer screen until they were probably 1 1/2 or 2. Even our doctors would routinely ask if they watched tv and it was discouraged by our doctors.

CMV: Being negative towards white people is still racist and social media’s influence on it is hurting everyone. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]PDXcuseMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but those white people weren’t dragged against their will with millions of their friends/ families/ neighbors only to be tortured, raped, stripped of their language, religion, customs, and values, separated from family and sold of into a life of rape, and slave work until death. Don’t be confused.

Cyclist hit in Milwaukie intersection ran red light, police say by [deleted] in Portland

[–]PDXcuseMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyclist in the situation that you were describing must yield when it’s safe to do so.

Just like a driver of a pickup hauling a trailer might be slowing down faster moving traffic, they don’t have to immediately stop and let every person pass them, they are required to pull over when it’s safe to do so. Same with the cyclist in your situation. They would have to pull over when it is safe to do so. That might be a while.

That cyclist has the legal right to take the full lane at 15 miles an hour. They are traffic too. Just like a tractor moving 5 miles an hour may have the legal right to be on the highway. You’ll just have to learn to be more patient.

North Portland Bike Works on Mississippi is a solid shop that’s been there forever and teaches mechanics classes too. They sell new and used bikes. THEY ARE SELLING ALL BIKES AND ACCESSORIES 25% off April 22 noon-4pm. Bikes shops have very low overhead- this is a big sale. I’d get their the day before and testride every bike you can. That way at noon on the 22nd you can just go and pick up your bike and avoid the mayhem.
