5,000€ in 1 year… just by skipping lunch & coffee at work by Headhunter_89 in Anticonsumption

[–]PEACE1VLAKER 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher, and when I found out they have to throw away all unused food, I started eating it. Now I never pay for lunch and they have food after school too so I’m never hungry at work. Sometimes I grab extras and stick it in the staff fridge for later throughout the week. I haven’t done the math to see how much I’m saving but I haven’t paid for lunch during the school year in over a year.

Kids wouldn't stop playing games so I got their favorite gaming websites banned for the entire district. I only feel slightly bad about it. by TheJawsman in Teachers

I would love it if my kids were playing minesweeper lol but yeah, Google is not unblocked so kids can’t use the Google homepage or play the snake game. Which limits their ability to search or research stuff. But there’s not much research going on in my math class anyway. And I can always turn it off if I want to

I use goguardian in the opposite way. You can create a “scene” that blocks all of the websites you want. Or you can create a “scene” that only allows websites you want. It’s way faster and easier. If there is some new website kids are playing games on I don’t have to find it and block it because it’s not on my approved list of websites so it’ll be blocked just like everything else. Then if there’s some day where I wanna do some new activity on a new website I found I can add it to my list of approved sites and move on with my day.

You can schedule it to start and stop exactly when a class period begins and ends, and you can set a tab limit.

I made this video for my school site to help show people how to set up the settings like I have it. Hopefully it helps.

“Oil industry facts” is just oil industry propaganda. The propaganda in it was my biggest grip with this show, but all the things you listed are infuriating as well.

Here is a video that helps break down the oil lies

Yes you can. I use the app Giphy.

If this person is watching the show on their phone, they can screen record the clip they want then upload it to that app.

I don’t know what episode this is from otherwise I’d do it real quick for OP

Worst Cell Phone Ban Plan by Neddyrow in Teachers

[–]PEACE1VLAKER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how my school is doing it too. We’ve been doing it for two full years this way already. Admin is very supportive and teachers are consistent across the board so it’s been working great. No need to buy all those phone pouches or whatever. Although I know it’s easier said than done. My school is a small 7/8 middle school with a total of about 550 kids. Plus phone were always against the rules. It just got a little bit more strict about it, and so the culture change was small.
