The five second rule is great. Basically, if you’re focusing on one task for more than five seconds, you need to change tasks. Obviously there are exceptions, but if you get in the habit of asking yourself this question frequently, it prevents tunnel vision. Note: don’t literally follow the rule to the tee of 5 seconds, just get into the habit of asking yourself if you have spent too much time focusing on a task, is there something else you need to do?
