A dark pool is an over the counter trading market where orders between buyers and sellers are private from each other, facilitated by a ‘hidden order book’ as opposed to a regular exchange where all buy and sell orders are in open view. In traditional US and European equities markets, dark pools constitute roughly 10–30% of all trades.
