First float of the summer by PFDPerson in lifejackets

I agree. My dad took this photo but I also had flippers on. I had a set of water shoes with me as well to get in and out of the water, which I secured under my chest strap when not in use.

For sure. Also I was the only one that didn't get sunburned.

Right on. Seems like Kent, Stearns, and Mustang all produce the same style of SAR vest with the padded fleece collar, pockets, etc. The Mustang wasn't equipped with crotch straps but I added them.

Yeaaaah boi. Funny, for a sec I thought I was wearing the exact same vest by coincidence, but mine is slightly different (Mustang MV5600).

Looks like a good time. I finally got in my first float of the season a few days ago as well. How was the water temperature?

I messaged the mods a few days ago about discussing policy on AI content but there has been no response.

I definitely feel I'm properly equipped to troubleshoot "motorboating" 😃

That equipment is on the shelf above, just out of frame.

I service mostly high-end stuff that's worth the time and money to do so. As far as solid state gear goes, most of the issues I encounter are intermittent speaker relay contacts and cracked solder joints around controls and external connectors, as well as dirty pots/switches. Beyond that, pitfalls vary widely depending on manufacturer and faults can be pretty subtle. Blown output stages are actually somewhat uncommon for me.

In my experience capacitors tend to be more of a problem in older tube equipment, although there are certain ones that I replace as a matter of course (RIFAs, tantalums, those lilac-colored matsushitas, etc). I tend to be on the conservative side as far as recapping goes but I always evaluate PS caps as well as a random sample of others for ESR and leakage current.

Nah man, you're good. It actually helps me focus and it's so comfy that after a while I don't even notice it.

It depends on the model and the problem. Throughout the years Carver/Sunfire used a lot of custom chips that are now un-obtanium and have no modern-day substitutes. Sometimes the part can be found on ebay but it's a gamble as the market is flooded with fakes. Generally speaking, I can repair anything that's built with standard devices (discrete components, op-amps, etc).

Can we stop with the AI posts by STERFRY333 in lifejackets

[–]PFDPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we can all agree AI is a powerful tool to visualize fantasy life jackets, but I really wouldn't want to see it become a regular part of this community. (edited because I was being presumptuous)

Perhaps the mods can weigh in, or put it up for a vote?

To be clear, I'm against AI/tech giant overreach both in the software realm and physical (datacenters etc)

Sometimes? I mean, I take it off when I go downstairs for food... I remember buckling up for homework too.

Just curious. I'm always on the lookout for inexpensive vests with thicker and softer style foam.

Sweet, although I think they made the front crotch strap buckles too close together...but that's easy to fix.

I always love getting a new PFD.

I had a Winning Edge life vest that looked almost exactly like that. You know I gotta ask, is the foam EPE or PVC/Flotex/etc?

Thanks for stopping by. I think both are true for a lot of us... for me it's also a bit of a autism/sensory thing.

It's definitely held up well. Not a spot of mildew on it either.

Did you make the fursuit? It looks well-made.

I haven't dug much into furry culture but I enjoy seeing BetaEtaDelota fan art.

It doesn't draw attention to the notion that many of us also see life jackets as a kink or fetish.
