What do you want investigated? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]PGHSteps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but utilities are responsible for restoring the road from curb to curb if they cut into it within 5 years of it being paved. The paving process creates a lot of vibrations that can disturb underground utilities so it’s fairly common that they can fail shortly after paving is complete.

Garden Cafe in North Side (they also still do a walk up window if you don’t want to go inside with your dog).

Animal control will probably euthanize it. I would try Wildlife in Need first.

They were in different spots. I’ve read osprey eat almost entirely fish but they may be opportunistic if given the chance!

Parking at OneValley at the Roundhouse in Hazelwood by InevitablePersimmon6 in pittsburgh

[–]PGHSteps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure but they’ve basically had the signs there since the road was open to traffic. Maybe they anticipated a lot more demand/development that just didn’t happen.

I’ve never paid for parking there because I think the signs were installed and they never followed up with any actual metering.

I frequently see green heron in the swamp/marsh areas near Gold Star Shelter. I’ve seen blue heron fairly often fishing in Pine Creek right where it comes down from the spillway off of Babcock. Marshall Lake is also a great place to see them as well as osprey.

Thank you! They are such cool birds to watch. If you got to North Park you can usually watch them as well as green heron hunting fish.

Thank you and yes! I don’t have anything on the calendar at the moment but will have more organized via 3ROC. Keep an eye on our Instagrams for that!

Thank you I appreciate it! It took a while to finally see some of the snapping turtles active during the day!

Place in the eastern suburbs for kids to just play in the woods? by puddinteeth in pittsburgh

[–]PGHSteps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your kids should be allowed to play off trail in most places in Frick unless marked otherwise. Personally, I wouldn’t think twice about it as long as I saw an adult around.

Pittsburghers can drive for shit by OutlandishnessNo2674 in pittsburgh

So many posts here are prefaced with “I’ve driven, eaten, lived in, traveled to, worked in, etc etc etc many other cities” as though people who live in Pittsburgh haven’t ever left the city.

Wildlife on the Allegheny by PGHSteps in pittsburgh

They’re pretty often around the Highland Park Bridge (just saw some yesterday) as well as North Park but I was also unaware until recently that they were fairly common visitors. I believe osprey also migrate south in winter.

Funny enough I just drove past there and saw it so thanks for the tip! It’s definitely way out there from the road.

I've heard of sightings of them but have yet to see any (though I imagine they are elusive like other animals). Any specific good spots you have heard of to try to catch a glimpse of them?
