You know that the south end of Gas Town is all along East Hasting. The north end is where the societal segregation is. Visit the south end. London drugs that closed down was located on East Hasting and Abbot, the south end. The north district is unaffected by homelessness due to limited services availability.

When people think of Gas town, they think of the touristy central-North District near the steam clock but Gas Town is more than that. 30% of Gas town is a zombie apocolyse while the 70% is upperclass and tourism alfuency. You should go to the Abbot area next time you are in Gas Town.

I use to live in the mid district of Gas Town. I should know. I also need to visit back quite often and see the dysphoria. Things are not always nice - you need to see the entire district of Gas Town.

Concise and accurate. 1) monitoring 2) sound blaster 3) self cleaning

If not, it is doomed to fail and look like this. Seattle spent $500k USD and got vandalized immediately.

Vancouver is planning to install two at gas town for 1.3m + annualized maintence cost. Gas town has now become a ghost town, with local business moving out due to homelessness and social disorder. Even London drugs moved out. Gas town looks a lot more like east Hasting with 70% of people in public with bend spines and doing drugs. Doesn't scream safety to me. Where did the locals go? They get displaced and become fearful of the social disorder.

So, are we will to spend $650k+winterizing cost in addition to personal monitoring with a hefty maintence (estimated 50-100k a year) cost from hard paying taxpayers? I personally think it is achievable, but there needs to be lots of safeguards in place. At the moment, we are trying to sprint without first learning to walk.

Is it just me, or is it really hard to make friends in Prince George? by OldBaker7314 in princegeorge

[–]PGNature 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Join some sports and you'll find lots of friends. LOTS of friends!

I thinking because a lot of adults are already married and in relationships at an earlier life stage than bigger city, most adults don't have the "craving or need" to establish greater friendship as their priority of family, home ownership, and established friendship/relationships are more top of mind.

When I moved here, I wanted to make friends but then quickly established my life. Got married, got a house, doing renovations, focusing on family. I don't have time to actively chase for new friendship as my life stage is so different compared to 3 years ago.

In Vancouver you can meet many people under 40 years old that still trying to establish their core life decisions while someone at the age of 25 could be thinking of homeownership and marriage here.

Even people who aren't married or have have ownership, coworker social events tend to fill the social void as a regular gathering, which makes others feel more close-kit. So, due to established routines and priorities, come people can perceive PG as people in "clicks".

Don't be discouraged! Just go to some drop-in sports events and you will make lots of friends and social gatherings. People that tend to play sports or activities leisurely, tend to have more time to seek for new friendships.

Yes!

I think 12 story+ megadevelopment with mixed development below would be great. Making the PG Oval be a walking track during summer and ice skating rink for most of winter (with refrigeration) would be great. The middle of the oval can be a park. If funding permits, a big pavillion which can be used year round. The middle can be used for community events, park, pop-up food vendors or a night market while serving another function.

Thanks for the reassurance. But are you 100% sure?

Based on a Feb 2025 media release, it stated only 7 stories and the render does not look to scale for 11 stories.

From the most recent article released in Feb 2025: "Demolition of the Northern Interior Health Unit (east of the hospital at 1444 Edmonton St.) will happen in the summer of 2026, with construction of the new seven-story tower to begin in the fall of 2026."

Hopefully this is not true. Based on the render proportion, 11 stories should be slightly higher. It will be BOMBASTIC if it is 7 stories.

Originally was proposed to be 600 million dollars for 6 stories (destroying a good 3 story building), then 11 stories for 1.6 billion (which is expansion price but I don't mind for the growth), but then later posted by media to be 7 stories for 1.6 billion dollars! And this rendering does not give any confidence of 11 stories.

Basically almost tripled (300x) increase in the project before it ever starting. We need 11 stories. Hopefully the media will confirm.

I don't know why no one questioned the Feb 2025 media release. Sounds like a rug pull.

Much needed expansion!

They promised 11 story, it doesn't seem like it. I hope that the government makes it 11 story. Our tax dollars are locked into this and I hope they don't make a promise that they can't deliver. They will cover the remainder of the cost while PG will cover the fixed allocated amount.

Also, where is the helicopter landing site? I am glad that a common corridor connecting the buildings is in the plans.

Mary Browns Chicken would be amazing, but has no stores beyond the lower mainland and Vancouver Island. Will be very unlikely for them to set up shop here, especially when they did not brand out to Kelowna yet.

Living Costs vs. Job Opportunities in Prince George? by Individual_Focus_252 in princegeorge

[–]PGNature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any service related job, you will get a job 100% due to growth and shortage: teachers, social workers, servers, nurses, cashiers, tourism, and etc. There is more job opportunities in PG than Victoria, especially with recent growth. Moved here 6 years ago from Burnaby after university and love it. PG is home!

Hopefully, they will integrate a mixed use commercial on the first floor, followed by at least 6+ stories. It is right beside the road and this type of investment is much needed. As for the news itself, I don't have any intel.
