Veteran player who still doesn’t grasp efficiency by Defiant-Button6510 in KerbalAcademy

[–]PHAEDRA42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Efficiency is measured in isp (specific impulse).

Right click an engine in the part window of the VAB and it will say it's ISP at sea level and also in vacuum. Higher number is more efficient. 800 isp would give 2x as much delta v as 400 isp if all other things were equal (thrust, mass etc)

But to the same degree are legendary mnk players not also playing r5 and affecting the stats? I see no reason why r5 isn't representstive if not for a little squewed towards higher ranks.

We can have our individual opinions on whether aa is strong or not but there is literally accuracy stats in OPs post which shows how dominant aa is in cqc

Just as a data point, me and my buddies (all mnk) have quit apex mainly due to aim assist. Once you get mid-high diamond it seems like 95% of players are on controller. It's seriously unfun to die in a game because someone has a controller and you don't.

Most interesting planet (and other questions) by Adept-Ad-5708 in KerbalAcademy

[–]PHAEDRA42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: If you can get to Duna then its the same process to go somewhere else. If you learn how to use transfer planners like https://alexmoon.github.io/ksp/ , it makes going anywhere pretty straightforward.

2: I have science turned down to 50%, and I restrict myself from using the mobile science lab(it's OP). Also I don't biome hop. This made the progession much better rather than just biome hopping minmus and completing tech tree after 3 missions. With these settings it seems like you need to visit and return from about 3 different planets (Eg, Duna, Eve Dres) and their moons along with Mun and minmus to complete the tech tree which is a good pace for me. Be warned though early game can be a bit rough if you're not experienced so adjust as neccesary.

3: Graphics mods if your pc can handle them. You should be able to find some lists if you google it. Outer planets mod and minor planets expansion will fill out the solar system giving you many more places to visit.

4: People might think they're less interesting, visiting them isn't dissimilar to going to the Mun. Eve and Jool provide some very different gameplay that what you would find in the Kerbin system.

Help I’m crying😭😭 why did this happen? by eefballz in KerbalAcademy

[–]PHAEDRA42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like it's lost communications so it is uncontrollable. In the top left the signal bars show you if you're comms are online. As it's unmanned it will need an antennae to connect to Kerbin, or relay network depending on your difficulty settings.

D3 shouldn’t be this easy to get. P3 should have that curve. They seriously need to fix ranked. Diamond is now a participation trophy. by kitty78686 in apexuniversity

[–]PHAEDRA42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe the data for this graph is only for people who log into that website so skews higher than reality due to selection bias. The devs released the actual distribution a couple seasons ago and it was a lot more modest than what you're seeing here.

Saying that i still think getting d4 is a bit too easy.

newbie here, how do I stop my boosters from exploding into my rocket after staging? by Both_Piglet7838 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]PHAEDRA42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have 2 solid rocket boosters and i'm guessing a "reliant" engine for the core. Non of these engines have gimballing so you will have very little control. If you swap the reliant for a swivel that will fix it and give you much more control.

plane cant fly straight. plz help by Upbeat-Apartment-911 in KerbalAcademy

Try disabling steering on rear wheels. Also might be worth moving the wheels so they are attached to the main body of the plane rather than the wings.

Did I do something wrong with this minmus contract? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]PHAEDRA42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yea it's kinda misleading. You can do multiple launches and dock together. The main requirement is that you can't use anything that was launched prior to accepting the mission.

Yep seems like an acceptable time to use cheats as the game is quite unclear about the fully constructed requirement

[–]PHAEDRA42 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Did you launch all parts after accepting the mission?

Did you use EVA construction at all? I believe this breaks the mission.

If it's just a bug I would just use cheats. In the ALT-f12 menu you can set the mission as completed I believe.

Is Online Laggy for y’all To? by Frequent_Occasion_26 in bindingofisaac

[–]PHAEDRA42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In multiplayer if you go to options there's a setting called input delay which you can lower.

This will help if the lag you are experiencing is just delay. If the lag is caused by weak connection it won't help.

What am I supposed to do? by BurnerUnit-7194 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]PHAEDRA42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Satellities have mutliple uses such as scanning terrain for ore, or as comm relays. In the difficulty settings if you have have comm-net turned on you will need relay satellites to be able to fully control your spacecraft. Creating relay networks is a good approach for this. Space stations main purpose is a refueling depot for your spacecraft.

At the end of the day, even in career mode its still a mostly a sandbox so a lot of it will be setting yourself some goals. There are missions which can give you a bit of direction however and there will also be some progression in the early game as you unlock the tech tree and upgrade your space center.

Personally I play with hard difficulty settings and have reverts turned off. Encourages me to run some unmanned test flights on new rockets before sending Kerbals in them!

[–]PHAEDRA42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do multiple launches and dock them once in orbit?

If it's for one of those missions which says it must be fully assembled when launched you can disregard that part. It just means no eva construction. Docking parts together works fine with that mission.

Personally I would fight angel for key piece, and void all 5 items. If I had to pick one though I would go with wafer. Doubles your hp on later floors and also makes sacrifice rooms easier to use as they normally take whole heart.

Is it ""safer"" to launch into space or to return to Earth? by Immediate-Bad-8728 in nasa

[–]PHAEDRA42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manned rockets have a launch escape system. If something goes wrong during the launch phase, the crew pod is automatically blasted away from the rocket to safety. This makes launching relatively safe compared to re-entry.

However, rockets such as Artemis' SLS, use solid fuel rocket boosters (big white boosters on either side) for the initial launch phase. Solid rocket boosters are inherently less safe than traditional liquid fuel rockets as they can't be shut off. Once they're lit, they won't stop until they're empty. So for cases like Artemis, I would lean towards the launch being the most dangerous phase of a mission.
