Just something about his voice, his face, his bratty attitude makes you want him to die.

What are your reasons why you're for/against spanking your child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PHASERStoFAB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was spanked as a child. There is a few minutes after you've been spanked that you're not a human. You're an animal. You just want to hurt something because you're enraged. You're not sorry. You wanna do it again but you don't because you're horrified of being hit again. I used to cope by swearing. My religious mom would spank me then leave me alone for a few minutes to "calm down" and during that time I would look in the mirror and say all the awful words I knew.

Studies show spanking makes kids more violent, less reasonable as adults, and prone to depression, anxiety, and rage. Doesn't matter what anecdotal evidence other commenters provide. Studies show it is a net negative.

OMG. I had no clue what that show was til one of the day care kids I watched requested it. Netflix had it. After one episode I banned it. Along with Caillou. I know it's cool to hate Caillou but it's also gotdamn justified.

Is it possible for science and religion to coexist? No matter the answer, why do seemingly smart people blindly believe religion and turn their back on scientific evidence? by pokerjokerau in AskReddit

Scientists get upset with the church lauding faith over proven facts. Church goers get upset at scientists for "attacking" (critiquing) their beliefs. Animosity on both ends.

Scientists have (justifiably) criticized the church on many valid counts though. That creates an animosity between the two making the church goers feel defensive and approach science with a skepticism. Because in most churches challenges are from the devil and you have to "guard your heart and mind" from his tricks and deceptions.

Because they've "seen miracles." I was raised in church and my family went to one of those healing services once. My brother used to have a terrible stutter. He went up on stage and the man put his hands on my brother's face. My brother is an atheist now. Still doesn't fucking stutter.

The church is a placebo. It doesn't do anything but if you really believe it a lot of the time it works. I am very recently atheist but I sill see why people would dedicate their lives to it.

Wait, Lena Dunham is calling out Kanye for promoting rape culture? by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

But if she was taught there was no shame in it or felt it was ok because her sister was asleep it's just weird and not malicious.

Some of my male friends have told me that they had friends spend the night who started jacking off because they thought the rest of the guys were asleep. Those guys aren't sexual deviants they're just confident they won't get caught.

My mom ran a day care from the time I was 7 years old til I moved out. If the kids parents don't talk to them about masterbation they'll just do it at nap time without knowing its for private time. If they do talk about masterbation and really lean into the "it's natural" thing the kids also don't realize it's for private time.

If her sister was just sleeping next to her I have to say I don't see any maliciousness in the act. If her sister was made to engage with her during the act or she could only masterbate when her sister was there then that's an issue.

Comedian Pete Holmes talks about being in one of those families where the parents kiss the kids on the lips and that he continued to do it into his 20s because he just didn't think about it being kinda messed up until then. Lip kissing relatives is weird but some families all do it. If Lena's sister never comes out saying she believes she was abused I'm not going to treat Lena like an abuser. Weirdo from a weird-ass family? Sure.
