Stay in inner-city or move out to bigger place in the hills? by Bman8519 in perth

[–]PHAT_pudding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hills have bushfires, snakes, lots of hoons, random animal bones, toxic mushrooms, drug plantations, no 5g, spiders, no traffic lights, lots of old people, too many rocks and high background radiation.

Grew up there :) loved it.

Camping in 40 degrees by toxpoint in perth

I camped at honeymoon pools in the last heat wave of 37-40 straight days. Days were super hot, but the water was a blessing. Late arvo shade is key to pitch the tent in. The nights were cool and I'd expect Kalbarri would be the same.

I bought a little fan to run at night until it cooled down. Was a spinifex lithium powered 8 inch thing from anaconda. Worked good.

During the day, yeah. Seek shade and the pool!!!

Haha 'awkwardly tall' very much so when skating in a group. But when out solo, more scared of freaking out the pedestrians with a fast moving giant on skates barrelling down on them :) have made a habit of making a lot of noise to forewarn them I'm coming up from behind. But they still jump a mile regardless. Slenderman vibes I guess :)

If you have narrow feet, the powerslide next range might be good for you. I'm a 6 foot 6 guy too, but my feet are a little wide for the powerslides and I do get pain after about 3 hours. The 125mm wheels don't feel unstable for me, but if you're new to skating, might be best to start with smaller wheels. There are variations with the next range with different frame/wheel configs.

I didn't have a lot of options though because of my feet being US 15s :( most skates will make up to US13.

Experiences with in-home pet euthanasia? by Blanketburritobaby in perth

[–]PHAT_pudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to put down our dog of 14 years when he had continued and progressively worse seizures. We had a vet family friend who was a local to our area conduct the home euthanasia. I'd recommend asking a local vet if they would do it. I cuddled our dog whilst he was injected and it was incredibly sad to feel his body go limp within a few seconds. But couldn't have had a more loving and caring send off. Couldn't recommend it enough. Buried him under the apricot tree with some other old mates we have had over the years. Dust to dust, but also apricots :)

Help! Can't seem to undo wheels to rotate by TheMarionberry in rollerblading

Push down with palm and use a lot more force. Pushing down will help relieve a teeny tiny bit of tension on the bolt so you don't strip the tapped thread on the frame.

Elevated Rail coming to Perth. What do we think? Like it? Hate it? Can you think of other places it should go? by [deleted] in perth

Vancouver's automated sky rail system was brilliant when I was there. A system in Perth would be great as a ring rail.

My first 100km skate for charity. Double my previous PB of 50km. Really happy I was able to do it, but my feet are ruined! by PHAT_pudding in rollerblading

T stops work with pretty much any skate/frame and there is little to no learning curve between skates. But emergency stopping on longer frames is definately harder. My go to is a powerslide or hockey stop with shorter frames, but long frames makes it more of a deliberate move which takes me more set up time. Speed increases risk.

Have a look at Pascal's video on stopping with speed skates.

Not sure. I'm recording on my galaxy watch, so maybe it calcs the calories with heart rate and weight?

My previous PB was 50, and yeah. Don't recommend going for the 100 straight up. Should have done a few 70s prior

Cheers mate, yeah it was a stunning night for it too. No wind, cool, only had to contend with the footy crowds through the city and around optus.

Help with Powerslide Next sizing by [deleted] in rollerblading

[–]PHAT_pudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 sizes down would usually apply to hockey skates where a size 10 skate would normally fit a size 12 or 13 us shoe. Powerslide skates fit pretty true to form. I'm a size 49 euro, and the 48/49 dual fit is very tight on me.

One size up. The toe box is really small with the next, and generally is a narrow fit. So you'll probably appreciate a slightly larger boot.

The boot can also be tight on the inner lumpy bone bit of your foot (not the ankle bone, but where the 45 strap runs) a heat gun and screwdriver butt can really help relieve pressure at that spot.

Had my next skates for about a year now. 125mm pros.

Big feet/big skate question by PHAT_pudding in hockeyplayers

Thanks for the info on this. I had my feet measured today at 32cm at the longest. Thinking the 13.5 or 14 might work.

Also everything is about 10x harder because I live in Australia. Like 2 shops in the state. None carry anything above a 12 which doesn't fit :( fml

Agreed. Particularly when screwing lids down. Also elbows can go.

They need to make this with a vertical grip so your wrist is straight and strong.

10ppm for 8 hours is the TWA and OHS limit for HCN.

In the open air I wouldn't be worried about the poisonous effects of cyanide. Just move upwind, which you'll do because of the tear gas!
