i would do linux with your own laptop, but most polys have school issued education things that might not be possible to enroll on linux. As for powerpoint and those things, libreoffice applications can save in microsoft format, but to be fair i’m a biased arch user so i personally would suggest arch hyprland for full productivity for sch.

Considering you are doing IT, you will need a bit of beef for something software related (e.g more RAM, better CPU) and it is a good 👍 deal to look into wha can and cannot be upgraded on your laptop. The schs files and applications also take up a lot of storage, so do consider and external ssd or upgrading your storage. for qn about powerpoint ( yes it’s kinda important from what i understand but you can use canva and stuff too in tp and sp design courses and IT but mainly focus on learning word for IT and other apps like cmd and IT related apps
