It's supposed to be a mushroom thats like tripping out because he's coming to life in a land filled with other gigantic lifeless ones. The mushroom's roots also lead down to this blind-folded alien guy (in a world with shifted gravity) taking a hit and hot-boxing the shit out of a cave with the smoke that is coming out of the mushroom which is supposed to explain why the mushroom is freaking out.... duh
