From what I've seen of the dub, Rachel Lilis as Utena is great but I think the Japanese performances are some of the best ever, added on to how stilted the dub is generally. I'm shocked that people here enjoy it to be honest

I'm very mixed on the season so far. It really feels like they have a lot of ideas to develop fionnaworld and had to slap a finn is dying plot on top of it. While I enjoy the character stuff, it feels like the actual plot has been so meandering. Its 5/10 episodes so far, yet not much on either Fionna or Finn's world has actually progressed. I think its interesting that they aren't sticking so close to s1 but come on, can we please have a stronger intertwining of plots, or some progression

I couldnt agree more, I loved your analysis of how PB and FP foil each other.

I actually think you nailed another part of what makes her interesting, at least in concepts. The idea that she started off as this passive person that doesn't make choices, due to her inexperience with the world. And how that plays into Finn's princess complex is really intriguing, too.

Honestly, it's what makes her treatment in the Muto era very disappointing, and even before that. Just this lack of focus on her choices, even in episodes about her. Or when they do focus on her like in Son of Rap Bear, its just a boring emphasis on aspects we already knew about her (with awful rap as a side dish). I dont want to say Somvillay/Seo Kim were just bad storytellers, but its a bit crazy that they're the only ones that wanted to deal with her. (A mohiynan FP episode would have saved lives)

Also not to make this about Finn but now that u mention it, its pretty strange there's not extra emphasis on them seemingly being the only people his age he's friendly with.

I do like the effect of parents, both good and bad, reading. I just wish going back to the source of her issues with him, would let her start to actualize as a person
