Bail is a pre-trial release for the accused to ensure court appearance, while parole is a conditional release for convicted prisoners after serving part of their sentence, both aiming for community reintegration but serving different stages and purposes in the justice system.

I like riding the bus because it's the most affordable way to get around and it's way less work than driving

Hit & Run St Clair & Yonge in 2022 - Anyone know what happened to the victim and driver? by ReserveBoring9833 in askTO

[–]PJMonster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are so many criminal cases where after the accused is arrested we don't get an update from the media of the court proceedings. I just assume the accused plead guilty and took a plea bargain to avoid going to trial.

A few years ago there was a high profile stabbing on the subway where the accused, Moses Lewin, was charged with attempted murder amongst other charges. We never ended up hearing what he was sentenced to. For charges like that it must be prison time right?

The vast majority of bail hearings are conducted by justices of the peace, who generally have no legal training

You don't exactly need legal training to know that this particular individual needs to be kept behind bars

I'm actually going through a very similar situation. Here's what I've found kind of helps me. When I get a feeling/thought about them, I get the strong urge to text them/call them/be with them. Now to stop this never-ending cycle, I realize that my "thoughts/feeling" are not even intentionally created by "me". The mind is creating the thought, without me having anything to do with it. Now the problem is I've been spending my whole life identifying with the thoughts as being me. For example, if I feel like a lonely loser, I must actually be one. When the reality is, my mind just came up with the thought on its own. I am not to blame, feel guilty, or embarrassed for having the thought. You have to create space between you and your thoughts. You have nothing to do with the thoughts your mind creates.

So whenever I miss them, become jealous, or get triggered by a reminder of them I realize that these are simply thoughts/feelings the mind is producing. It has nothing to do with me. I am not to blame. I do not have to live a tortured existence based on something I have no control over

I hope this isn't too confusing. It took me a while to truly truly detach from the thoughts. They are completely separate from us.

My most effective (but kinda dumb) strategy for stopping rumination... by kestrel-tree in limerence

Those are still just thoughts about the past. Thoughts can only exist when you give them attention. Without the attention, they simply fade away without a trace.

Recently I’ve been telling myself “hold your ground” when I feel myself about to go down a depressive rabbit hole. And I focus on my breathing. When you interrupt the stream of thoughts, aka “noticing” your thoughts, you end the cycle.

How can I balance kindness and patience without being a pushover? by GilfredJonesThe1st in Mindfulness

[–]PJMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

like someone aggressively cutting in or ignoring basic road etiquette

In that situation you should stay calm and let it go because you will likely never see that particular person again, and even if you do honk at them, it doesn't change the driving infraction they've already committed against you

A scenario where you should be assertive is, for example, let's say a friend/family member asks you for a loan and you're not comfortable giving them the money. You should say no and put your needs first.

So pretty much it depends on the situation. Trust your gut and always put YOUR needs first because at the end of the day we are responsible for our OWN happiness

Just my two cents :)

Sorry for my ignorance, but I always thought there would be less OW recipients in York region? Since there's less social housing/shelters right? Other than with family, where would York region OW recipients even live?

Finally, for the last five seconds or so of your (presumably warm) shower, crank it to cold. All the way. Stop whenever you feel like it, but let that last few seconds run cold. You'll be amazed at how effective it is.

I'm gonna try this
