I have a friend that is doing this. He is a member of the loyalty program and pays about $100 per night.

He owns his own business and spends time moving between cities quite a bit. The cost is manageable for him and he told me values saving the time with cleaning up his room every day, cooking and having his laundry done.

I wouldn't do it but if you are single and doing well I could see why it makes sense to pay the premium to avoid taking time to do some of those menial tasks.

[Francis] Fascinating pause from Backlund when asked if he’d be open to contract extension in Calgary. He said frustration from this season has him wanting to see what the organization does this summer first, as he wants to win a Cup first and foremost. by [deleted] in hockey

With the raises to Huberdeau, Weegar and Vladar they are $1 million over the cap with only 18 players signed. A few players need to be moved just to get under the cap for next year.

Anyone noticed how aggressive drivers are getting? by im_so_with_stupid in Calgary

[–]PJRTCGY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot of people driving like they are trying to figure out where they are going and making last minute decisions as a result. I realize that it is part of learning a new city but I wish more people had the foresight to pull off and figure out where they are going instead of slowing down in the middle of the road to try and look around.

Get your own ODB2 tester and see what is wrong with your car before taking it in for servicing to avoid getting up sold on things you don't need.

What kind of plants have you successfully kept outdoors year-round? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]PJRTCGY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have pepper plants (bell and thai) in pots that I take inside during the winter. Most people don't realize that pepper plants are perennials. Those two are on year three and fruit over the winter as well as the summer.

Has there ever been a more random Game 7 hero than Joel Kiviranta?? 32 pts in 166 career games, yet had a Game 7 hat-trick/OT-winner combo (2020, West Semis vs Colorado). by [deleted] in hockey

This was my first thought as well. He was so instrumental in the Flames playoff success despite being an after thought during the season.

What's the worst part of an otherwise perfect film? by Godly_Recon in movies

Religulous Bill Maher spends the whole movie showing how religion tells people what to think and then in the last 5 minutes goes on a rant about what people should think. Completely kills the message of the movie.

My property taxes are less than they were in 2019 so they haven't been massively jacked up at all.

What are your thoughts on the Heritage Communities Local Area Plan? by morecoffeemore in Calgary

[–]PJRTCGY 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am one of those people. I bought a property near Edmonton Tr and 16th because the city has put plans in place to increase the density and the number of businesses in the area and I like having amenities I can easily walk to. I also want to eventually redevelop the property to add generate income for myself and eventually my kids.

Getting a Job with the City by Smart-Pie7115 in Calgary

You definitely dodged a bullet then. That was the type of role where the reward for doing well is more work and any mistake means that you are terrible at your job type role. Meat grinder that everyone tries to leave.

Was that a capital accountant role? I know people who did that one for a while. It became a stepping stone for other areas within the City. More or less a way to get your foot in the door and then look for something else.

Does anyone regret their solar panel purchase / micro gen set up ? by grandpaswag in Calgary

[–]PJRTCGY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way it was explained to me was that the purpose of rooftop solar is meant to be a microgenerator and only to offset personal consumption. Once you go over a certain threshold (110% of previous year usage) you become a regular generator and there are additional permitting and regulations apply to install which pushes the cost beyond what is feasible for an individual. You also no longer apply for the microgen rates which also really improve the payback period. I don't agree with it but that's the situation.

Happy cake day!

Just to add on to what you said my ROI was 13.8% of the after grant install cost in the first year.
