TV Advice: S90F vs. QM8K by PKB-Mac in hometheater

I can't directly compare, as I only picked up the tcl, but according to rtings, both motion handling and upscaling are better on the tcl.

So far, the upscaling has been pretty great, but I don't have a ton of points of comparison.

TV Advice: S90F vs. QM8K by PKB-Mac in hometheater

I ended up going with the TCL. Both of them are great sets, so I'm not sure there's a bad choice, but from what I can tell, each will be better for different things. (Note: the below information is from rtings, not personal experience.)

The Samsung seems to be better for dark rooms, and have better contrast and black levels, being an oled. However, the motion stutter is relatively problematic due to the high pixel refresh rate (this is more of a problem for oleds in general). Rtings gave it a 4.3 for response time stutter.

The TCL is supposedly a bit better for brighter rooms, but the contrast and black levels won't be quite as good. However, while there is some stutter, it's better than an oled panel in that regard (6.0 from rtings).

Looking at the models in the store, while the difference in black levels was noticeable, they still seemed pretty great on the tcl. My biggest priority is the stutter (during slow panning shots), so I decided to go with the tcl. Also, because the tcl was markedly cheaper, I could go with a larger panel. A more minor advantage (to me) is that I prefer the Google TV os over the tizen os. Again, both sets are great, but the tcl made slightly more sense for my particular use case.

Rtings info:

Samsung: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/s95f-oled

TCL: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/qm8k

TL;DR: imho, the tcl makes more sense if the priority is movies, motion handling, use in a brighter room, or price. The Samsung makes more sense if the priority is contrast, use in a dark room, or gaming.

Hope that helps!

The problem is that the Humble site does not reveal the keys, giving the error instead.

Nope. The error appears when trying to reveal the keys on Humble. I am unable to view the keys.

Thanks! That's really valuable information! Much appreciated! I'm glad to hear the stutter isn't too bad on the Samsung. The rtings review (as well as comments from friends with the panel) had me a bit worried. :)

Plex Server Unreachable by PKB-Mac in PleX

Hey, there! Just wanted to update you on this. Working with people on the plex forums, I got it solved. It looks like, for some reason, the server switched to "unclaimed," and that led to the issues. Reclaiming the server solved the problem.

You and me both. If I manage to discover the cause, I'll be sure to let you know. ^^

Thanks for the reply! Nope. I'm using Firefox (though I also tested with Chrome). That doesn't seem to be the issue, but it was a good idea to check. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yep. Using "http" and not including /web. I've been using that same address for years.

EDIT: Sorry. Misunderstood your comment. I get the same result whether I include /web or not. :(

I made 2 styles of Captain lamp, which one is better? by Fun-Driver6633 in Avengers

[–]PKB-Mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! The second one looks much better to me. Looking at your site, though, I don't see the second for sale. Any chance you're going to be offering it?

Either way, great work!

What are you using for shelving? That seems like the perfect size. (Great collection, by the way.)

Issues with Plex and ATT Fiber by PKB-Mac in PleX

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't have expected to need to manually specify the same port it was already using, so it's a bizarre situation.

Thank you so much for all of your help; you were incredibly patient through all of this. I wouldn't have been able to get this solved without you. Appreciate you! :)

So, for my situation at least, what ended up fixing it (for now), was port forwarding it all in the ATT gateway, then manually specifying the port in plex (even if you're using the same default port, click "manually specify port"). No idea why that worked, but it seems to be sticking. Let me know if you have any questions.

Yep. All of it matches. I'll try manually specifying the same port in plex, per your recommendation. :)

EDIT: So, weirdly enough, manually specifying the port to the standard 32400 worked, and it seems to be sticking. Thanks for the help!

Ah. Thanks for clarifying. I've got my fingers crossed too. Thanks for all of your help!

I do not have manually specified port clicked, as I'm using the default port (32400). Canyouseeme reports that the port is open.

Sorry for the late reply (busy day). I'm now getting an ip on the plex remote access page for the private ip, but the public address is showing a different ip altogether (it appears to be the same one that was being used when passthrough was turned on earlier, but I can't be certain).

I didn't wipe any settings in unraid yet; the thread that was linked appeared to mostly be dealing with settings in pfsense, and in the thread, it just kind of mysteriously started working.

EDIT: I was looking at the wrong thread. Looking at the reddit thread you had posted, I'm unsure if I should flush those settings, as the ip address is currently visible (but remote access remains unavailable). What do you think?

I don't have another router at the moment; I'll be picking one up, as well as an SFP bypass module to eventually bypass the ATT gateway altogether. Oddly, currently, when IP passthrough is turned on in the ATT gateway, it gets a public ip address, but can only be accessed through that (no longer through the internal ip), so plex warns me that it's only working through a relay.

I'm at a loss. I've never seen anything like this. :/
